Day 15 already.
It was a great idea from you to start this, I know exaclty what I improved on / what I learned.
Today on day 15 I only learned one tiny detail and that is how to put the top line of the nostril
construction, it´s always parallel to the wing of the nose.

Drawing noses is not easy, the nose is a main point people focus on when looking at a face and
judging if they find someone attractive or not. You can try that out by changing different facial features,
changes the nose can make all the difference

yeah, i have such a hard time drawing different nose shapes with my ocs in anything but a cartoony way, though I do a lot of different shape since my ocs are all different ethnicities. I still want to execute them well so people can know they're attractive lol

I'm glad you're finding it useful xd

Still practicing making my female leads features visible without compromising her intended complexion. At this point I can't tell whether they're becoming more visible at not, so i need some other opinions lol.

This kinda feels like a step back to me. You've gone back towards the pitch black it seems.

Colors of the clothes are a massive improvement though.

I can tell it has a blue hue, but it is so low down the value scale that it reads almost as pitch black.
You just need to move up the value scale a bit to make it more readable.

Here, I made a minor adjustment to the value, see how big of a difference that makes in readability. Mine even lacks light/shadow in the face to show you can have a dark looking complexion, close to what you want and have it be more readable.

It´s a good idea that the character doesn´t have dark colors.
I think you are on a good way. I recommend sending the characters
to Angel Ganev, I don´t know if you are familiar with him, he is a really
good portrait drawing teacher, the best imo. He does a different video
every day where he gives shading advice to artists

One thing that I tried was drawing the outlines of your characters white and
it looked pretty good imo, especially when you have background in the panels later.
It´s just the question if you want white outlines

Day 16, the hands were fun, the nose sucked but I guess I have to do longer portraits again
to get the perspective right. I will probably continue with the shapes of the lips tomorrow

Day 17, the hands gave me a hard time, especially the one which is facing to the front.

I´m continueing the planes of the mouth area / lips in small steps, this will take me a while.
I don´t draw much realistic portaits and in my comics and in the drawing courses I use
very cartoony looking lips.

I´m trying to use the 100 days of art to get back into figure quick sketches. I used the
Riley method to draw this. I forgot most of the steps to do the Riley method and I´m not
happy with it, but I´m never happy with figures

no I don't know him, how do you send characters to him?

This is his page with the course, the course is expensive and challenging
but it is really good www.doodlewarriors.com

And this is his instagram where you can send him a picture and ask him
to improve it or what you have problems with. I´m pretty sure that he would
like the challenge

You can also look at some of the videos how he imrpoved the shading on other
people´s drawings. He doesn´t work on the drawings, just the shading and highlights

I tried drawing a bust of my male lead, since I'm not great at drawing guys yet.

Also two pictures from a day or so ago of my female lead. Really not happy with the face on the aerobics outfit, BUT thanks to my dad being a comic book nerd, and my little sister having a super memory, I finally found a character I can use as a point of reference to try to draw her

All 3 characters look good imo

I don´t find the nose of the guy attractive but I guess that´s just a matter of taste

Yeah, I don't like the way I drew the nose either lol, but I'm still working on it. I don't think it fits his face. Can you see the girl's faces though?

Yay. Well I expect it to be a slow process, but I'm glad there's improvement.

I´m the slowest learner ever, I just make it through being consistent and being stubborn.
That´s also something I´m trying to teach the kids that I´m teaching, they are all very impatient
and they want to give up after one try

Yeah, I know I'm impatient, but fortunately I'm also stubborn so I don't give up lol. I want to make myself improve faster so I just practice more. Doesn't work, but hey, at least I keep practicing xd

It seems to work though, and to start topics like this or participate helps too.
Don´t be too hard on yourself

well thanks, I've just gotta keep working. But I'm really grateful for your advice and suggestions too. It's always great to get tips from people who are further along in their art progression than I am rn

Day 18, the daily hands, I´m happy that I pulled it through 18 days long,
then I worked on the planes of the mouth area, it´s way easier to remember
than the planes of the cheekbone area.

I worked on some of the male characters for the story I´m working on.
This is a guy the female main character meets on a vacation

the hand position looks so delicate and elegant today!

Didn't finish a single piece I liked yesterday, but I have meh WIP of Mora in a steam punk fit, and a rough sketch (first time trying to draw) my OC Rudy. I think I might redraw Mora's face before I get to coloring

Gotta slim Rudy's face up a bit more and soften the angles on her face so she can have a square jaw while not being confused for a guy.

Also this drawing of Christopher in a Dominican school uniform sitting like a hieroglyph lol.

Finally finished an okay ish school uni pic

And a pic where i did a weird glowy thing since Mora already kind of glows in water being a bioluminescent creature

I can´t believe it´s already day 19, I normally never feel like that but I feel like I have been improving.
I will continue doing some kind of online diary. I have a big list of things I want to get good at.

I wanted to practice and learn more about lips today but I only managed to do one which
I tried out on a female character. The usual hands and a very quick sketch of a male character

And I started with the anatomy studies again, it helps a lot when drawing muscular guys,
I studied a lot of anatomy but it´s still hard to draw anything from memory and I just guys
where everything sits, would be cool to know where everything sits

It's day 53 of 100 days of art for me. Can't believe I'm more than half way done already. I wish I'd made more progress. I redid the colors twice on the picture of Mora to more canon ones to see how they look. Still like the purple haired one a lot, but it's technically not canon as her vitiligo never spreads enough to make her hair 100% pure purple.

I'm probably gonna draw Mora twice more today since I'm a day before on the outfit challenge.

Btw @Lensing I checked out Angel Ganev, his skills are incredible

Don´t worry, most (sometimes all) of the progress will develop after a while, it´s like many seeds that you plant
and they grow slowly. It´s just important that you constantly have to do problem solving.
I had months which felt like zero progress and then only one or two moments in one year where I thought
I got better at something. It´s probably something we never really see ourselves or is hard to see

aye, I just gotta keep practicing and hopefully i'll improve even if the progress is slow lol. At least I'm pretty far from the very first drawing I made digitally

Spent a very long time drawing the highlights here from different reference images.

Still gotta ways to go. It looks trippy weird RN lol

Have you ever tried to place the characters on a dark background and then make the outlines white?
I just tried that and I think it looks good and makes the characters more readable / not even necessary
to use highlights

Day 20,
I really diliked drawing those fists holding a pipe/baseball bat.
Then I tried coloring them quickly and now I think they would work in
a comic. They would probably even work better when they are tiny and
in context.

I decided to draw some panels today to reward me and to motivate me to
keep on studying. I tried out a portrait for my female OC. It´s from a dream
sequence and how she sees herself. I wanted to make her look more serious
and strict but I´m happy how it turned out and I feel like I developed

Yeah, I have, but I don't like the effect it causes for Mora, I've done it to draw my other very dark complected FL before tho

Still behind on the outfit challenge lol, I redid Mora's shading a bit and the color of her dress yesterday, so this will have to be updated with today's art later.

My brain is dead. I like how shiny she looks tho most of it still needs a ton of work. I think this version is better, but it might just be me.

Alright, drew this today

My little brother suggested I make her glow lol

Good idea with the glow.
Are you familiar with Stephen Silver?
That´s the artist who drew Kim Possible and he is also a teacher.
I think it would be interesting for you to look into his instagram page
because your art is very silhouette based / the silhouette of your
characters is very important. And he talks a lot about that and how
to improve it. It´s really interesting.

It´s something that I don´t do at all, but I should

Day 21, hands and lips.

I´m at a point where I can live with the hands that I´m drawing, they will work with my style

I´m also trying to make one of the 25 essential expressions every day with my OCs

no, i'd never heard of him but i'll look it up.

what are the 25 essential expressions?

The 25 essential expressions are a fun thing to do when you make character sheets for
your comic. I do that to get to know my characters better and for brainstorming.

There is also one with 30 essential expressions online but 25 is already overkill enough
