I stopped aiming for the stars and shoot for the moon instead. Spending ten years on a single story in a huge universe meant the world to me but it doesn't mean jack shit to the average person looking for something new to read. It took a long, long time to realize that I just need to stop caring as much.
My ability to plot stories has accelerated now, too, and I can only think it's because of a calibrated attitude. This comes at the perfect time because ten years is not a healthy production schedule.
