2018: what social media/website is the more effective to promote your comics?

I have a site that could be added to the platform to promote your comics list. It's called Stumbleupon. It generally works for me on views. It could help with getting new members to the site too.

I don't make a comic, i'm only a writer. I won't link my novel since you're doing this for comics, but I hope I helped you somewhat.

I haven't met yet anyone who published on the Duck in the past year and got results. When did you start publishing there? For the moment I don't have a 'what's next' chapter cause I already have a ton of material for what is going on already, but it could definitely be the subject of another article (so I could add becomics, comic sherpa, etc.).

The webcomic list and Belfry will have a quick mention, but they're not what you want to focus on in 2018, even if it's still referall material for those who have their own website.

I started posting on The Duck in January 2017, it was pretty much the slowest, then in May 2017, it got a big spike and I continued to get views even while on hiatus. We resumed posting this month and so far The Duck continues to outperform Smackjeeves by a significant margin for me, though Comic Fury is doing better than The Duck again by a fair amount.

I'm curious to the meaning behind Tumblr being famous/not worth it when you are going to list Facebook and Twitter, which are equally famous/similar social media websites even for webcomics?

Honestly, no hate, and in the end as the collector of this information you decide whats best for your audience, I was just curious! I know a lot of styles of comics, even from great artists, don't fare well on tumblr just because of the general audience- but the same can be said about all these other posting platforms too.

For Funding Platforms- Kickstarter is great for comics that want to move onto publishing stages though crowd-sourcing.

Hi there, you made actually a great remark and I thought a lot about this before start writing. As you said, Tumblr is not better nor worse than Facebook or Twitter nowadays in terms of visibility. And I 100% agree. What the first two do better though is in other things than visibility. I couldn't be very specific here because my article is going to be very complex, but to make you understand, Facebook is still worthy for an artist nowaday for its great webcomics communities and Twitter for even more stuf that I'm gonna list in my article. Tumblr doen't have any add value apart from the visibility you could get from a repost. Furthermore, if you ever become a successful artists, you bet you wanna have your own Twitter and Facebook in your name and avoid anyone stealing them from you, while it wouldn't be the end of the world having a Tumblr with a slightly different name. Can you imagine clicking on a Sarah's scribble Facebook page named 'Sarah's comics' instead 'cause someonelse got her name first? But again, you made a great point: if you gotta grow readership from scratch, today Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr are equivalent.

Johnny Wander is a huge name in comics that doesn't have it's proper name on Twitter (because someone did take it before them I think, just like you described, haha) and actually alternates it's name usages in a few places I think for the same reason of accidentally losing it to others. Abby Howard is also similar, but it might have been a choice, to change/shorten her comics name for facebook. So I don't personally think it's the end of the world for a comic miss it's own namesake (author or comic title) on twitter/facebook/or tumblr, as long as all the relevant information can still lead to people finding it online!

Kickstarter is great for publishing/anything with a 'material' goal for comics, so it's definitely not one most artists immediately jump to, especially if just growing the readership up like you said previously.

My comic is Coffee O'Clock! Thank you for the shout-out if this suggestion makes it in. I'd love to read it once it's done, other artists opinions/experiences with different social media platforms is always a huge help.

I wouldn't recommend 9gag for posting anything.
It's full of people who will steal your stuff, and use it for their own gain.
There are some nice artists on 9gag though, so I guess you could still use that.

Whenever you post something online, no matter what, the risk of your stuff being stolen is on. I used to post my illustrations only to Deviant art some 12 years ago, and years after that I have found my illustrations on a website that was selling them on a tshirt. There's no safe place out there, it's the risk we all take and we all must be aware of at any time.

My comic is definitely most popular on Deviant. I don't know why people are so against that site? In my experience I have been growing the fastest there for sure.

Just curious, have you been active on deviantart for a long time?
Because when I first used the site waaay back it was great even for a new unknown artist,
but now when I tried to come back it feels near impossible to build an audience or connect with ppl

You're definitely missing Pinterest and specially YouTube, it's huge!! And there is so little competition in the sense that artists who do comics are a few because usually they don't like editing videos.

YouTube is a long game, but only those who push through it make it!

Take H.C. Brown or Coffee Table Comics, which are huge YouTube channels and thanks to that they have been able to grow a super large comic audience. Be aware that Holly Brown has more suscribers because she also talks of other things other than comics, so many of her fans like HER more than her comics, but are willing to fully support her because of that- (To me that's success).

Now Coffee Table Comics has had their comic featured on Webtoons and is super informative! But because he's the typical man, grown up, much more serious and only talking about comics he has less suscribers. (Love him anyway just being clear)

Example of comics board being shared on Pinterest (there are many like this IF your comic is aesthetically pleasing on its art... tbh many comics don't fit that criteria:
