Probably you're just living in that part of society, where stereotypes about gender roles are too great. During my lifetime, I've changed social environment a lot and eventually learned that what you are describing, is not something "built-in" into men and women. Things do not necessarily should be this way, as you describe. It's a society/cultural issue, which forms people's personalities in a blinkered way, which leads to sad stereotypes, you mentioned, like:
Most men I know believe women to be highly volatile, have selective hearing, and prone to sensitivity.
...
And then there's the fact that men are, as women like to call it, "pigs."
For example, from my experience, these things are much less common among intellectual part of society. And in this case, again, an individuality starts to play more role, than gender.
