From my perspective, it looks more like people just see a thumbnail or banner on the homepage and hit subscribe, then forget about it.
I read above that someone has 8k subscribers and was getting 35k views a month. I have 8.7k and am lucky if I get 3k a month. Also, your likes to subscriber ratio, for my comic, is about 1:26.
So what happened? Well, I have a very different looking comic to what's on Webtoon. In fact, I can't think of a single webtoon that looks like mine on the site, so for that reason, I think Webtoon has singled me for promotion at least 6 times now over about 2 and a half years. You know, to show they have different kinds of comics on the site.
That's gained me a huge number of views and subscribers, but like I said, I think they're mostly just featured comic readers who happen to see the thumbnail, but then forget about actually reading the comic.
At least, that's been my experience.
Note: I was actually just promoted again for my contest entry, and this time the reader engagement from the new subs has been much better than previously. But if I'm not mistaken, the thumbnails are showing up in a different spot on the app now, so that could be why (meaning more Discover readers are seeing it.)
