Actually you're the first person to catch Shastas reactions to the world around her and whats going on since I started this comic, congrats! I was waiting for someone to catch something was off about her reactions to whats going on. This is a story thing, I haven't quite sorted out how to explain it just yet, but I'm also not at that point in the story to address it yet.
As for Shastas returning to life, there are some stakes involved but I'm not quite at that point in the story either. She doesn't have a free pass though,
So part of what I'm doing for the first story arc(I'm about...70% done with it) is starting things off as dark but with a sense of humor to it with a character who also has a sense of humor about whats going on. Then as things go on it gets darker, weirder, and more serious. It occurred to me to have a character go on a journey like this she'd need to primarily have a fun easy going personality at the start of the story so you get to see when things get worse how she changes.
There is also the fact that theres a bit more going on with her personality than what I'm showing right now, fortunately with the second protagonist added to the story I'm getting to show that off some more as well as next months chapter, which will hopefully provide a partial answer.
Not sure how successful I am so far with my choices, but the changing in tone starts with the next update and am happy you like what I have mostly. I know its kind of an odd comic in a lot of ways and its also nice to know I'm hitting more targets than I miss. There is a LOT of weird lore I'm still fumbling with how to explain properly without it being nothing but exposition and also trying not to give away too much early on.
Thanks for the critique, its a big help and I hope you stick with the comic as it progresses, things start changing around the corner.
