Hey all, I've just recently published Episode #23 of my series, The Ballad of Mallroy Dane. It's primarily a superhero science fiction story, but also delves heavily into anime-esque martial arts especially after the first 10-15 episodes. There are bursts of action, but also comedy and a lot of world building, as well as attempts to give the world and the powers at least something of a scientific explanation. To give you an idea, I'll include two snippets from the latest episode, one highlighting some anime-style comedy and one showing an explanation of an invisibility power.
In the first snippet, the teens are waiting around outside their high school for Kotsuzui the Bone Master, a bad-ass martial arts master, to pick up the titular Mallory Dane for his first day of training. Linnie, a teenage girl who is obsessed with him, is acting like a bit of a thot, and Sully, their ginger-haired friend, has something to say about it. In the second snippet, Kotsuzui is showing his invisibility powers to Mallory and how it is perceived from his view.
First Snippet:
“I wish we could go with you,” Sully said, disappointed.
“Me too,” added Linnie, adjusting her shirt to show off more cleavage. “Maybe I can change his mind.”
“Enough with your thottery,” the ginger groaned. The pig-tailed teen just giggled.
“Kotsuzui made a good point though,” added Mallory. “I can focus better if he trains me alone.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Sully waved him off sullenly.
“I hope he’s able to help you,” Selena said cheerfully.
“Don’t worry, I will,” came Kotsuzui’s voice, seemingly out of nowhere. A second later he shimmered into view.
“How long were you standing there?” asked Emmett, crossing his arms.
“Long enough,” the Bone Master replied with a smirk. A second later he saw a blur and suddenly felt someone hugging him tightly. He looked down to see Linnie’s arms wrapped around his torso.
“Let me come with you guys! Please?” She gazed up and tilted her head back to show off her cleavage. Sully stared in utter shock, then walked over and pulled her away from him.
“Will you stop it?” the ginger cried, then pushed her slowly away from the group. “BEGONE THOT!”
“But, wait!” she protested. “Kotsuzui-kun! Don’t I entice you even a little?”
“Not at all,” he replied, his face stern. He crossed his arms and turned towards Mallory, ignoring Linnie’s continued whimpering. “Are you ready to go?”
Second Snippet:
“Oh, wow,” the dark-haired teen said, looking around in wonder. He and Kotsuzui were still standing in the parking lot, but everything was bathed in a dark violet light, a soft glow around the edges of the cars, trees, and even the other Paragons, who seemed unaware that the two of them were still there. It looked like a mix between a blacklight and a film negative. It was eerie and like nothing he’d ever seen before.
“I know the scientist in you is wondering how this is possible,” the Bone Master said with a chuckle. “As you know, visible light is normally governed by photons. But this is a separate spatial dimension that blocks us from normal view. We become completely transparent to those photons, and we can only continue to see our environment because, from this perspective, we can perceive dark photons. You can also observe dark matter and dark energy from this frame of reference, but because the field of view is a lot shorter here, it’s harder to see farther off.”
