I've done 2D and 3D animation, some for school and some for personal projects. I prefer drawn, frame by frame animation over all other forms. 3D can be fun if you've got a good rig to work with though, but this isn't about 3D, oops. I would say that, generally, animation is vastly more time consuming than comics, unless each panel of your comic is a fully rendered 8 hour digital painting I guess, haha. Translating a 3 page action sequence to animation is an extremely laborious process. That said, watching your work come to life is very satisfying.
I enjoy both comics and animation, but I find that comics are much more approachable. I have to really buckle down to animate something, be prepared for the slog. Comics, I can work on bit by bit and still feel like I'm making good progress. I still plan to do both, moving forward.
