I like to break figures down into shapes, and usually draw a spine line first, but most of the time I just go for it. I sketch in photoshop so I can erase bits or start again if it's crap.
Possibly difficult with the whole COVID thing, but I recommend life drawing lessons. If you can't do this, then take a small sketchbook (or iPad) and draw people while out and about. For hands and feet you can use your own as reference.
