This topic is in regards to the new Patreon changes. I’m still trying to figure out how it affects me, at least when it comes to the pledge fees. Since my Patreons haven’t been charged for this month, I have to wait to see how much percentage will come off of it.
So the main question is, if you have a Patreon page, are you staying or leaving? I have watched several videos about the new update and most of those videos enougrages artist or ( whatever you use Patreon for) to leave the platform and start their own subscription platform. I agree with this however, it’s not that easy.
Some artist doesn’t have personal websites due to funds. You have to maintain hosting and domain name. And even if you did manage to get those, you have to almost have some kind of knowledge about HTML or CSS in order to put your website together. And if you don’t have the basic knowledge for either, or even word-press (which is actually most common with artist to use as a CMS) you are almost doomed.
This means, you will have to hire a website builder which of course isn’t cheap and may not be affordable.
With that being said, is it logical to leave Patreon? I despise the new changes. I ideally would like to leave and start my own subscription based platform because I do build websites and I built my own website for my readers (www.pleasurecomics.com) my only fear is that, I may lose readers in the process because people tend to trust a much more popular platform instead of giving new ones a try.
So what do yawl think? Is Patreon what staying with? or Blasting?
Should I go ahead and consider creating my own subscription based platform for my readers?
