I don't know about your school, but mine was really good with helping me get a job once I graduated. Make sure you keep in contact with your career adviser and actively tell them how things are going or companies you would like to look into!
As for your comic, it can actually look good to art companies! To give you an example, my first job out of school, I applied as a 3D character modeler. However, during the interview, I told them I worked on a comic in my spare time and had well over 100 pages of it.
Did I get the 3D character modeling job? Nope, but instead they hired me as their official story board artist because of my comic examples and that's how I got my first job out of school. That lead to plenty of other opportunities and now I'm in a pretty content place career-wise.
That said, I was literally talking to my friend about this yesterday. A lot is luck, a lot is location, and a lot is knowing people. Network your ass off while you're in school. Get business cards. Go to conventions and meet people, find out about new places and companies. Stay in contact with your career adviser.
Best of luck to you!
