Artist attitude - pet peeves?

Whew! Got that off my chest. Hey, thanks for lending an ear. I'm not calling any names, don't want to hurt feelings, BUT this did happen.

Some strangers online can be mean, and I've had my own run-ins with people in the past, but you'll be a stronger person for it^^

I'm not the best with this, but I can offer the advice lol - have confidence in yourself and your work, and people will be confident in you. =)

I think more that to me I can't get away from the fact that I'm eating flesh. I can't think how to explain it well but it's the same kind of disgust people have about eating dogs and cats.

Fish is quite unflesh-like and I like the taste but I'm not still convinced I should eat it.

Wow uhm... It's not very kind to put a thing in this thread with a timing that makes it very clear who you're talking about, just saying... Especially since there's pretty much only one well known creator on this platform who does the very thing you describe.

This thread at its very essence runs the risk of making people feel attacked, so anything we can do to avoid that happening is probably for the better?

The only creators I have a genuine problem with are manipulative ones that try to deflect meaningful criticism. I've had honest art review content threatened with legal action because the artist didn't like that I pointed out the problems and suggested improvements. It's ridiculous.
It comes from having an inflated ego I guess. People feel like they don't have room to improve at all, when really you'll be improving for as long as you are drawing.

One pet peeve I have is when a creator uses someone else's accomplishments to turn their lives into a pity party. I mainly saw this when I started college and we were all building portfolios.

What I mean by this is: an artist does a project that they're happy with, so they post it online or show their friends at school as they normally would. I've seen and experienced instances where someone will turn the whole situation around to be about them. They'll say stuff like "too bad ill never be able to do that" or "hahaha, you're so lucky to have enough talent to do that, and then there's just me." So then the artist feels guilty even though it was never their intention to make someone feel bad about their own skills.

I personally believe everyone is capable of improving their work and it's frustrating when, instead of trying to improve, they make other artists feel bad with self-pitying attitudes.

This happened to me too!! I used to be part of a community of an art blog on tumblr that was like a help desk for artists. People would often submit for critiques and we gave actual technical feedback, not pats on the back. That was the draw for a lot of people coming to us. But you get some people that just go absolutely insane when you point out any flaws, it's like they submitted expecting to get people completely enamored with their work. One threatened me with legal action for daring to do a redline (their uncle is totes a copyright lawyer), and then went and stole an artwork of mine and posted it to their tumblr account as "character adopts" and actually tried selling them.

In life people never stops improving as long as they are willing to grow.

That`s why before giving feedback i check how the person asking for feedback handles criticism. ¿Too defensive?, run you fools!, ¿does the person thanks people or give them likes when it comes to constructive criticism?, then that person may be willing to listen.

Also, while i state facts about how to improve i try to be as empathic as possible and avoid saying things in a harsh way, so they know i have good intentions.

I relate to this a lot. I tell people to draw more but I only do a biweekly release.
