Artist looking for a Writer (open, collaboration, unpaid)

Hello!

It's been such a long time since I visited this site, hope you all are doing good! The last time I was here, I posted something very similar to my current topic and did get a very good person as my writer, but I was constantly in and out of self-doubt about my art being not good enough, not something I would be very proud of when I look back to it. Unfortunately, it's been over a year and that person's now busy with their work life and I'm here (again) to, maybe, find someone I can collaborate with - as an artist myself - on a webcomic/webmanga.

Over a year I've improved somewhat, and have read (and enjoyed!) popular titles like True Beauty which I still love, and it gave me an idea about webtoons in general which I lacked before. I was more or less ignorant about how comics 'work', but hopefully, this time I'm prepared.

Coming back to the topic - I'm looking for a writer who is friendly (I'm informal yet formal, if that makes sense?) and would love to make a YA story with genres like slice of life (think high school fooling around), fantasy (kimi no na wa?), and the likes. Moreover, I'm open to all genres but no bl/gl please, I do not feel entirely comfortable with that. I would really prefer human characters (no non-humans or talking sparrows please xD) and an environment which relates to our current world. I want a person to work with who is not just 'passing time', but someone who is dedicated and hardworking, someone I can relate to. Someone who is willing to put in the time, effort and tenacity required to push their work to the top without giving up midway.

The kind of story I'd like to illustrate is one with a sad kind of ending, or maybe a sad but good-feeling one with deep sub plots that pull the readers in and makes them get to know the characters and their environments better. Short term or long term, both are fine, but long term stories usually make it to the top so that's preferred. Also, I'm not hoping to win any contests but would really love it if we can make a big name for our comic! So the story's got to be well thought-out and polished, with no loose ends anywhere.

We can publish chapters every two weeks or so, because weekly would be too much for me and monthly would be too slow for readers. Colored illustrations, medium length chapters (?).

And - this is a collaboration, so I'm not going to take any money from you. We will be a team, and I'm a student; plus I have a freelancing part time thing, so I'm just here to practice my art stuff and improve at it while I can.

Storytelling is my passion, so I definitely qualify as dedicated, and slice of life happens to be my favorite genre. I have two different stories I’ve been refining for about two years now, so hopefully you can fall in love with one of them as hard as I have. The idea of writing a Webnovel has lingered in my mind for quite some time now. I've always loved reading and I've always loved Fantasy.

With the pandemic and all that comes with it, I had more free time than ever before in my life. So I decided to start this ambitious project. To write a Fantasy Webnovel. Here on Tapas.

Now... I'm the kind of person who, when deciding to do something, wants to do it right.

Why am I replying to your post?

Let me tell you straight on. I'm not looking for my work to be turned into a comic for now. I also don't think my story is the type of story that fit your description. BUT: I am looking for someone who can create concept art that tags along with my story. So every now and then, when the situation in the storyline is called for, I would like to have my novel visualized .

You said that you also work as a freelancer and I do think that work must be paid for. No matter how good/bad it is. Meaning, I am willing to pay you for every one of the concept artworks you create for me. It doesn't matter if the quality (or style) vary from time to time, I think it will be a good exercise for you

Hey there! I know I’m a little late to the party, but your post was FAR too enticing to not at least try out for! You seem to value a lot of the same story elements as I do and on top of that, I find your artwork to be pretty incredible!

Now bare with me, because what I’m about to do is paste an old “help wanted” post that I had made a long time ago when I was in search of an artist for a story of mine. This should hopefully give you a good frame for what I already envision!

I’m a YouTuber with 80k subscribers who started writing a story called Yandere City a few years back. The roleplay series that this story was written for was pretty successful on my channel, but I decided to cancel it after only 8 episodes and later realized that I wanted to rewrite the story for the hopes of it becoming a webcomic one day. To be honest, the initial version of the story that was made for YouTube was made extremely quickly, so its not anywhere near as grand as what I currently have written (70+ pages of notes). The script was also produced quickly, so the version made years ago can come across as a little cringe-worthy (lol). I have since refined it tremendously and have made it a story I am very proud of with connective and intertwined storylines that help fulfill themes and long-seeded character arcs among many characters. The issue is that I don’t have the skills necessary to bring my vision to life in a webcomic format.

I am hoping to find someone/people who will be able to create the webcomic pages, illustrate them, and work collaboratively with me in a dedicated partnership. I’m looking for a person who will be active and responds promptly so that this project can go as smoothly as possible!

The story first kicks into motion when a 17 year old boy named Anthony with the ability to see visions of the past and future through his dreams moves to a new city. On his first night there, the boy sees a vision of one of his classmates, Brandon, dying in the back of an alley as the culprit, a mysterious masked woman, goes for the kill. In order to stop this from happening, the main characters soon learn they must learn to combat the dangers of the criminal underground, discover more about the masked superhero that roams the city streets at night, and uncover the hidden information about the previous events that earned this place the nickname “Yandere City.” As the secrets of the strange, and sometimes supernatural, events they are surrounded by begin to unfold around our characters, the return of the “Yandere” seems more like a presence that will bring upon a new chapter for the entire city. This is a story about learning to take control of one’s own life even at the expense of getting out of a comfort zone. Don’t be bogged down by the past, because the future is still untapped.

This is a fantasy/crime/mystery story with heavy slice of life elements and will include:

• Magic (elemental manipulation and prophetic visions)

• Spirits

• Magical Dimensions

• Gun fights

• Knife fights

• Hand-to-hand combat

• Blood (nothing TOO crazy, of course)

Honestly, I don’t know much about drawing/storyboarding but I will try to assist as much as possible in making the vision come to life. Any questions you may have will usually be answered by me relatively quickly.

The other has to do with using powers that sound bad/useless but are actually useful and character adjusting to becoming young adults. Both have lots of action, but will also focus on themes and character devlopment. Both take place in modern day civilization.
