I'm so irrationally frustrated by it, hahaha! To each their own, but the Battle Angel series is one of my all-time favorite ones, so it's disappointing to see it done this way. I would have preferred the entire movie being CGI than modifying someone's face this way...
Besides which, so many reviews mention that she's supposed to be recognizable as non-human in the original comic, or doll-like, etc. This is not in any way true. The big-eyes is just part of Kishiro's art style, and many characters both male and female have eyes this way, including the love interest boy who is also in the trailer and doesn't have his eyes big-ified.... >_> A lot of people in-universe don't realize she is in any way robotic and underestimate her, thinking she's just a normal girl, and this is an ongoing plot point so.... the excuse as to why they did this is completely fabricated. It's baffling to me it keeps getting repeated in articles. The only thing in-universe people mention about Alita/Gally is that she's super short and has big pouty lips, which many characters make fun of her for. She doesn't even have that...?
I guess Cameron just wanted to make a real-life big anime eyes? I just feel a serious and violent series like this is not the place to go all uguuuuu.... sigh I'm sure that lots of people will enjoy this, and it's cool they seem to be going all-out with the cyborg fight action but.... x-x my superfan heart is broken...
