Another Cali person here. In-n-Out always gives me horrible stomach cramps, and I always find their buns to look a little greasy? That might just be because I'm a ridiculously picky eater though. I will say the food is still relatively decent! I like it enough to not rank it as the worst, but I don't like it enough to understand why they're so hyped up.
As for Best, there's this independent burger joint called Jimmy's Burger that was like 3~ miles from where I used to live before I moved and if I ever had to have a last meal, it'd have to be their chili burger. Most of the time I can't finish my portion bc the burgers are rather big (at least in my tiny little hands) but what I can eat is so good. I've been going there since I was 5, for reference.
As for Worst, I'd have to say Burger King... I like their fries but the burgers taste off for me. I can't really pinpoint as to what they taste exactly, but it tastes artificial. I know I'm eating from a fast food joint and thus not exactly expecting hand-made patties from a cow that was slaughtered not even a day ago with lettuce organically grown on the building's own roof, but if I had to give a comparison, it tastes to me what prop food would taste like if you bit into it.
