“I’m holding the rest of the guards off,” Aeolus’s crackly voice came into the coms, along with the faint sound of gunshots. “Go without me. I’ll… I’ll find some way to catch up later.”
“That was the plan,” Silas said to Ann, holding up the artifact. “If we can get one of the Angels to activate it, then we can get the hell out of dodge.”
Charlie and Aliyah suddenly came out of the lab, Charlie carrying the Aviator on her back. Their bloody formal uniform had been swapped out for an old leather jacket that looked just a little too big for them, and tan pants similar to the ones they had been wearing before. The most noticeable change about them, however, was the fact that their permanent smile was gone. Their face looked utterly normal now.
Skye followed them out, looking like an absolute wreck.
“We dressed the wound,” Aliyah said. “They seem to be doing better than they were before, but…”
“We need to get out of here,” Wyndham cut her off. “Now.”
