Can the price of my ebook discourage people from buying it on amazon?

I want to sell by story as a ebook on amazon, but I'm wondering if the price is as low as $0.50 cents, would that make people think that the story probably isn't that good because the price is so low?

My sister seems to think that a low price like that could possibly turn some readers off from buying my ebook

I think my sister said pricing your ebook that low gives the impression that the author doesn't value his own story that much and if the author doesn't value it much then why should any reader out there want to buy it

my ebook is a short story, it only has about 10K words and that is the reason I would possibly price it at $0.50 cents or I could make the price be $0.99 cents instead

First, you can't spend all your time worrying about what hypothetical readers will thing of your work. IF they see it while scrolling, you'll get maybe 30 seconds of thought before they move on.

Things to remember when selling your book on Amazon:

• Advertise. Despite what the vast majority of online indie authors think, your average reader does not spend their free time scrolling through Amazon's lists for something to read. They are more likely to buy it, if you advertise.

• Have a good cover. If you want to sell to a general population, your cover has to appeal to a general population. Readers want covers to look at professional as possible. While a hand-drawn cover or a cartoon style cover might be fun for a free site, general readers likely won't give it a second chance.

• Cost. You are publishing the book to make money. Amazon has two royalty options. You can either earn 35% or 70%. The lowest price you can sell it for is 0.99 USD for the 35% model and 2.99 USD for the 70% model. So you're not earning very much money choosing the cheaper price point

If you want to make this work, spend more time to make your 10K word story longer and the best version you possibly can before going through the process

I think your sister has a point. But 10K is a really, really short story. Not even a novella. For that kind of short story, maybe it would be better to wait until you have some other stories and put them together ?
Or make it longer.

The shortest books I've found on Amazon were still 150 to 200 pages, but maybe I didn't pay attention enough before.

This would be the second story I'm working on, the first story I wrote has a 40K word count.

Then, to be honest, I wouldn't know what to say about pricing or selling in general. It's only career writers I've seen who are able to get traction selling their works.

You can publish a 10k story on Amazon for 0.99. There's a category for short stories.
Don't stress about the price and what people will think.
I agree with @cherrystark

It's all about promoting your book and having a catchy cover and blurb. (And good writing )

Anything priced below $2.99 will earn you 35% on each sale, which isn't a lot.

Also, it doesn't have to be over 50k words before you publish. Do what makes you comfortable and happy.
