So as it says this is about character deaths that hit you hand and WHY. What made that character's death make you so emotional? Or you can just post a character death that made you SHOOK but you can't really pinpoint why lol.

Personally, Toji's death hit me like a truck even though I knew it was coming. In the little screen time he got, I became really attached to this kid probably due to his older brother feel and the way his death was portrayed as well to put it bluntly entirely meaningless. It made me want to punch the author for throwing away the potential he had with such a short end to his character. I halfway think this is good writing because it did make me so mad and halfway think it was just toying with a character (Which we are all guilty of let's be honest) Either way his death hit me hard and I still don't go back to the anime specifically because of it

Mowgli - Legend of the Jungle. You know the one. It just comes out of nowhere and suddenly you understand perfectly that the movie is going to get even more violent by the end.

There's no sad apology to Bhoot. There's no redeeming moment. There's no moment where he does ANYTHING useful. He just dies because he's an albino animal that a poacher saw and that's just what happens. I think it hit harder on me than a lot of stories where the characters actually contributed to the story before kicking the bucket.

I have a few to talk about, but I'll try to hide 'em in spoiler tags for each series.

Attack on Titan (anime and manga until chapter 105)

Season 3's second half comes along with the Return to Shinganshina arc. I knew about Erwin dying and Armin getting burnt up. I read the manga that far by the time this came out, so I thought I'd be prepared, but no. The voice acting, the soundtrack, and the animations really added so much more to these scenes.

Last one is in the manga, chapter 105. It's the arc after Return to Shinganshina, where we see what the Marley people are up to. It's a reaaaally slow build-up to what becomes a real explosive battle. These children soldiers get involved as Eren and everyone pulls back after a successful attack. And uh.. Sasha gets shot by a kid and she bleeds out. It didn't feel real to me. I kept reading on afterwards for a few chapters.. but I gave it up eventually. But season 4 is coming in a year or so, and I'll be more than willing to see the last chapters adapted~

Demon Slayer (anime)

It's not a huge main character, matter of fact, I don't think he has an actual name.. I looked up and they refer to him as the Hand Demon. Tanjiro faces him during the Final Selection arc. Really early on in the anime, episode 4.. maybe 5. Tanjiro kills this demon and I expected him to just kill this demon. But he showed compassion and like he held his hand before actually killing him! It triggers a flashback for this Hand Demon and he remembers his brother holding his hand out and it was just so weirdly emotional for me to watch lol but I love it!

Naruto Shippuden (anime)

Episodes 82 and 152. Not so much about the deaths, but the aftermath of their deaths hit me hard. Losing both Asuma and Jiraiya definitely hit hard to some extent, but seeing Naruto and Shikamaru learning to deal with losing their teachers and in Naruto's case, his father figure, that was.. that was something else lol I get chills watching those scenes

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (anime)

Strangely enough Nina's death.. didn't hit that hard for me. I mean yeah, it's sad, but I got nothing. I get why other people have a hard time watching it, but yeah, I didn't feel too connected to her to feel it as much.

Envy's death, however. is so damn sad to watch. This cocky arrogant character I came to hate has one of the most heart-wrenching deaths for me in anything. This guy gets reduced to such a small vulnerable creature and he tries his hardest to get everyone to turn on each other, but nothing happens. Ed figures out exactly what all his flaws are. Everything Envy wants is what he can't have, so he lashes out on everyone. And Envy refuses to face those facts, and he cries and feels so ashamed for being jealous of humans, so he decides to kill himself. What hits the hardest for me of this scene is his pitch-shifted voice (it's rather high, since he's a tiny creature) and the music. He nearly sounds like a little child and the emotions are almost accentuated by the altered voice, so him screaming and crying just embodies misery and pain in the scene for me and makes it hit like 10 times harder.

Guild Wars 2

When my dragon baby died just as the prophecy said in LW season 4 of Guild Wars 2

but that was a red herring and she revived herself in the next episode coz she absorbed the powers of a lich earlier so I felt a little cheated. Bruh I was legit upset. Only death I've ever been upset about in GW 2.

Dragon Age 2

When the PC's mom dies in chapter 2 of Dragon Age 2 like I cried. She just reminded me too much of my own mom (and also getting made into a frankestein's monster made out of murdered old ladies by a psycopath necromancer was pretty icky)

Also wow Tidus ceasing to exist in FFX was the mega oof of my teenage years. Then FFX-2 just went full moron with it. Where did Tidus come from? Who knows. Why is everyone a singer now? Whatever.

Lol I cannot who thought it was a good idea to have a small girl drown in a river alone in a kid's film about imagination. Left me bawling.

I have a feeling there are many more but I cannot really remember any now. I have a bunch that feature a character dying and that have had probably a greater impact on me, but the deaths on their own weren't why I was "hit hard" so ehh

Toji got put into intensive care and lost his leg, but he did survive that crazy beating. He does basically leave the anime at that point since he got evacuated with the rest of the class, but at that point the anime switched gears and became a lot more serious so they just dropped the high school vibe entirely. So I can totally see how you'd miss it, he's only really talked about in the background.

But ya is anyone going to talk about Severus Snape? Just me? I was very unhappy with that death, I had gotten very attached to Snape. Then finding out about Lily immediately after he died made it feel like a suicide so it just made me very upset that this book series I grew up reading just freakin killed the potion master with poison somehow. Same with Fred Weasley. Fully unnecessary.

Sarah, Last of Us. That was pretty shocking having to see Joel deal with that right off the bat. It also was a scene that got me so invested into playing the game to the end.

As for anime.... I have to say Meruem and Komungi: Hunter X Hunter. I thought that was a pretty touching end to the arc.

I remember teenage me got so upset at L's death that I straight up stopped reading. <XD He seemed like such an interesting foil to Light, but then just... nope. Dead.

Okay so I know everyone dies in this one and it's kind of a depressing story in general... but TOBOE WAS SUCH A GOOD BOY HE DIDN'T DESERVE THIS QnQ

Also, and this is the biggest one for me- Any movie where a pet dog or cat, or other beloved, innocent animal dies. I stg if any story pulls a Death By Newbery Medal, I get irrational levels of angry at it. XD ; Especially if any trailer or advertisement for it dresses it up as a fun, happy feel-good story. My Dog Skip fucked me up as a kid, so I learned to avoid any book or movie that centered around the life of an animal, because I knew it'd also include the death part... Same with if I see any comic on tumblr where there's a human and animal, or two people doing cute things together, and then I see them starting to get older in the panels- I know I gotta avert my gaze and scroll past the rest of it if I don't wanna feel emotionally dead for the next hour or so.

(Doesthedogdie is a godsend of a website if you wanna avoid stuff like this, by the way. x_x I can handle a lot of stuff, but... Whenever there's a deep bond with an animal that's broken by death, I just can't.)

It was a Newberry award winner book first. The point of the story was to teach kids to treasure your friends while you have them and let imagination sore because soon enough real world hits ya.... at least that's what my children's lit prof liked to say.

I just read that famous hentai "Metamorphoses" by ShindoL last night and MAN IT WAS SCARY. I also felt really bad for the girl at the end (she died), but at the same time, she made so many bad choices. Some were because no one tried help her, and some were because she didn't try to share or explain herself properly.

Don't do drugs.

Edit: an innocent girl blablahblah somehow gets into prostitution and the usual slutfest hentai plot. She slowly falls into depression and misses how she used to be. One of the guys she is with gives her drugs, and while she is high, she experiences her past self and is addicted to drugs as it brings her back to a time before her innocence was lost. As time goes on, her drug habit worsens, and eventually she ends up pregnant. She continues screwing around even while pregnant until some guys beat her and basically kick her in the stomach. As those guys leave, she looks at herself in the dirty bathroom mirror. She puts on her glasses again, and styles her hair back into the girlish braids she used to wear. She decides to inject herself one more time, but this time saying that it's for the sake of her child. The manga flashes to a scene of a mother and her child. The mother says her daughter is the best thing that's ever happened to her. And mommy was in a very dark place before Hana was born and gave her life meaning. The scene flashes back to the present, and all we see are her glasses, blood on the bathroom floor, and a used needle.

The female protagonist, knowing her baby was probably kicked to death in her belly, overdosed and let herself join her dead unborn child in a better place away from the sexual and physical abuse.

Arthas Menethil/The Lich King in World of Warcraft.

Not only is he my favorite character of all time, but I think he has one of the best stories of a character starting off good and turning out inexplicably evil. His first turns to "evil" deeds are morally gray and you understand why he made them (some of the best internet debates ive seen have come from whether people agree with his actions or not), and as he slowly falls into the madness of becoming the Lich King, he does more and more evil deeds until we (the player, since WoW is an MMORPG) finally have to put him down. And at the end of his life, he just accepts that he's going to go to a place worse than hell and dies.

Emille's death from Valiant Hearts. When I first watched playthroughs of it I almost teared up, because jesus, was that entire game heavy, especially towards the end. Also the fact that Emille dies thinking his son-in-law was dead. He died thinking he failed Karl, but he actually lives. Damn...
