I've just started posting my comic!
I chose January 2021, because it's the start of a new year and I always find that to be a good time to start forming new habits and beginning new projects. It's also the summer holidays here, so I don't have to work, and I can focus on creating a nice buffer of pages for when I do get really busy.
Originally I was going to launch Blue Star Rebellion by posting five pages at the end of January. But once I finished the first three pages, I realised they made a nice little gateway into the story on their own, so I bought the launch forward.
The world Blue Star is set in - something I call the Dragonfeathers Project - has been in the works for over a decade, but Blue Star itself is actually quite new - a sizeable chunk of story and script just occurred and poured out of me over a weekend around mid-year. I knew I wanted to use this story to develop my comic-making skills, (I've never made a comic before and didn't want to START with Dragonfeathers), so I tidied up that first 50-or-so pages of script, plotted some loose ideas about where to go after that, and just hopped straight to designing ships, outfits, side-characters, settings and so-on, with the goal of a January launch. It was a pretty quick development window, all things considered, but a LOT of the lore and magic system, as well as a handful of characters, are carried through from Dragonfeathers. That simplified a lot.
