Comic artists who also write their comic: How long did it take to do the script and artwork?

I sing covers sometimes, however I know I'm not good at singing, but I do it because I enjoy it. I could collab with someone who actually knows how to sing and instead of do the mixing, but then I wouldn't get to sing even though I enjoy it

Personally, since the group I work with does short anthology stories, so... when I'm doing a short solo... I like to experiment with different processes. And so far, my best feedback has come when I'm working from the loosest structure with a few key story beats I want to hit.

okay, so my comic is divided into 5 parts; 3 parts for the first season and 2 partss for the second, with at least 50 episodes each part

I did the first 55 episodes for the first part in about three months (i started creating the outline on december 2018) and i do the script for the other parts in between drawing the pages (usually whenever gets too late to continue drawing, or when i'm too tired to draw)

i don't think my method is the best way of scripting, but it works i guess? i mean, there are people out there who deadass wing their either book/comic and i'm wondering how they keep up with that, because i did that before, and it ended up horribly before lmao

It generally takes me about 4-5 hours to write a script for a single chapter. I start out by brainstorming some ideas and refering back to my outlines to ensure that I'm following the plot. Afterwards, I write out the script, edit it for like, 2 hours straight, and there ya go!
For the art work, I usually do some rough sketches on paper, then I switch to digital drawing and I lay out the panels and everything to make it look good. Everything else, such as coloring, lineart, speech bubbles, etc. follows until I'm satisfied with the result

You're implying that there aren't people, myself included, who are fully capable of writing their own story and illustrating it. Even if a person is better at one aspect over the other and feels the struggle, let them decide when to "drop the pride". No need to be so harsh about it.

My current story took 3 years to write and 2 years to make. Granted its a short story so I didn't expect it to take too long. Most of my other comics I just kinda winged it so I wouldn't count them.

My advice is to drop the pride, and collaborate with an artist/writer, instead of being a juggler.

GUYS! I FIGURED IT OUT! Mr. Writer is from the universe of Divergent. He has no idea people can be/do more than one thing. It blows his mind that someone us are multifaceted people with varied interests and passions.

I don’t have a script so much as I have a rough outline of where I want the story to go. Then I just come up with a rough draft each chapter.

I do this by backing myself into a corner, always drawing the last page in the batch first. Then I do either the first or the middle most page next. It’s easier if I have scenes I know I want to land on for the spreads. Tho I don’t always hard follow this rule, I’ve gotten lax about it but I always do a spread on the last page of the batch.

Other than that I’m just winging it. XD

Also I write and draw my stuff myself because I’m a control freak who can’t submit to the whims of a writer. I have too many ideas and I don’t like sharing. My gift and curse is that I’m too creative so I’d just come up with too many ideas and probably drive the writer insane. I do that to basically everyone all the time anyway. Once I even tortured fanfic writers with my ideas, because they loved them all.

I can’t do that to some poor writer unless I’m feeling sadistic. So i can’t subject a writer to my whims either. I’m better flying solo which is also why I color and ink my own stuff too. I have a vision I want to completely control.

I have the story itself written out in long form, though it's a bit of a mess and needs de-tangling. I'd say a week of scripting and editing equals about a chapter of drawing (30 pages). I don't really track how long things take me, though, so it's hard to say for sure. ^^

The scripts for each chapter takes about a couple months to perfect, while the artwork can take up to a year.

I used to write and draw in the moment. Then i thought writing full blown finished scripts was necessary for a project, but then i changed my mind again. We change things too often in the middle of the process. So all that's truly necessary is a basic direction. Some may think its inefficient. I would agree if i was alone. But somehow i found the perfect cowriter. He needs work in his writing and so do i. He has the best/craziest ideas and i have reserved advice against those crazy ideas. With broken tools on my end, getting stuck on hiatus has allowed us to plan ahead on a lot of plot points, though i still know we're gonna adjust a few things either for crunch, or plot reasons.

Presently not finished scripting it. I'm up to the second chapter of part two of my novella that I have done a script adaptation of.

But for 27 pages of script, 9 pages of that became 25 pages.

To draw, as this is my full time thing, 25 pages a week.
