I get some of your feels @shaneoid77- I grew up on superhero comics, and I like drawing superhero comics as well, but I also feel that the model that Marvel & DC have created for the most part only does one thing- sell books & a brand. Not saying there is anything wrong with that in general, but that is one of the reasons why they are catching some difficulty from diehard fans because of the changes they are now implementing. These companies realize that the market is changing, and they must change with it, or die.
While I do like to do superhero stories, I want to do something a little more different, better, and meaningful than the "atypical superhero story" that people were used to seeing from those companies. It's because the superhero genre has always been in that state of "campiness", that is the perception that most audiences associate superheroes with. Like I stated earlier, while I like reading & drawing superhero stories for the most part, I do have comic tastes outside of that particular genre; while I'm not a hardcore Saga reader, I do admit the story(as well as Fiona Staples' art) is interesting. I'm also a big fan of Monstress, Giant Days, I Hate Fairyland, The Sheriff of Babylon, & Thief of Thieves- comics that dont dabble in the superhero realm, nor have the superhero style of art. I guess what I'm trying to is to combine the elements of the high action that I like with some of the great storytelling material that I've read in other stories.
Comics has expanded in the last 4-5 years, and I like the variety of titles. It doesnt mean that the superhero genre is dead, but it needs to evolve to escape its own stigma.
