Cool Codenames for Characters

I need help brainstorming ideas for a codename for my character, Cole. Ex. 007, Ronan, White Wolf, Baba Yaga, Kids Next Door. He is a former assassin/mercenary turned bodyguard. The only name that came to mind was The big Bad Wolf (also solid tie to my story Red.) What do you think? Do you like It? Any other cool sounding codenames?

I like "The Big Bad Wolf" I like the idea that it could be shortened conversationally to "Big Bad" or "Wolf" which makes the character seem more legendary to the point of being mythic and like a set part of the world.

Is there anything else about the character we could tie it to? Big Bad Wolf sounds cool but I know a lot of codenames usually try to stick to only one or 2 syllables. Pony's suggestion of just Bad Wolf or Wolf is a good one, though Bad Wolf just reminds me of Doctor Who.

I was thinking along those lines too! Haha! In my family, we joke about having a "given" nickname, and call each other by the nickname of the nickname. In my head - The Big Bad Wolf, would be his full "given" nickname and Bad Wolf, the nickname

That's awesome! I thought my family were the only ones! My one brother is nicknamed Fred and my mom nicknamed his twin, George. (She's never read Harry Potter and has seen like the 1st movie 20 years ago)

I can't remember where I heard it from but I love the idea of these nicknames that sound cool on the surface until you find out the origins which are usually some embarrassing story lmao so like there's another way to try to come up with one

Like as an idea, "Blackbird" could be a reference to the time a character picked up a pigeon as a kid and tried eating it or something dumb like that lol

No worries. Both sound cool but they are short. Cole and Grey could be "too similar" in terms they are shades of black or grayscale

Alas, for me "Big Bad Wolf" reminds me of "Bad Wolf" from Dr. Who. But I think you'd only find that correlation coming from Whovians and I doubt any would raise objections.

My first inclination (forgive me) is to go for comic relief with something silly like "snickers" (apologies, apologies, apologies, I haven't had coffee yet this morning.)

If it ties in with your Red story why not "Red Wolf?" with Red for short? then you could have a line later that goes "red for dead." (a play on anti-communist "better red than dead" from long ago history)

Sigh, I'm useless.

Thank you for the ideas. My thought was triggered by the line "Whose afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?" which ties in well with my "Little Red Riding Hood" themed story "Red".

Codenames change so Red could potentially fit in somewhere.
