Copyright webcomic before publish?

I'm not sure is this a exact issue on this.
Is it recommended to do the copyright before publishing or after?
I'm kinda lost on the copyright your art and works.
I read somewhere you don't have to copyright till selling webcomics but what do you guys think?

You automatically have copyright to your webcomic simply by creating it.

Any content you create is yours unless you make a deal with someone to share the copyright.

Although if you want to have the right to sue in any case you need to make it official.

you have the right to sue regardless of anything "official," especially in posting on platforms like deviantart or tumblr, where original works can be protected under the creative commons license. i'm unsure if tapas does the same thing and i would need a better source on that (god i would hope so). however, as @Chronitis is saying, if you are creating works that you feel could be profitable in the future and would like the extra protection and documentation to solidify your case in the event your work is infringed on, you can look into registering your copyright here

If you're posting online and your finished product is still a work-in-progress, I don't think it's necessary. (You can't copyright incomplete works, I don't think.)

For completed stories, naturally copyright before publishing in book form, since it will be your entire comic as a whole/in volumes.

Also if you wish to copyright your series it may be a good idea that you wait until you have a good amount of pages or at least one volume complete depending on how you want to go about it.
One day I went online to copyright my comic when I only had about ten or so pages, I asked a worker on the website if future pages would be protected and she told me that it wouldn't because these pages don't exist yet. However, that's just my experience. If you are still worried about your work getting stolen, then perhaps make smaller copies of your pages and watermark them.
Some people use tools like google alerts, image search etc to find out if their stuff has been uploaded elsewhere.
