Cute girls for cute things

I have two dolls who I fell in love with for their cuteness. I made a little head canon that they were like sisters and they did little random things together. Now I made them into original characters for a little pun filled comic and then a more serious story.
Are their designs cute and distinct enough from their base characters? Kiri is based on Kirino from OreImo and Mii is based on Miku Hatsune.

personally i would try to play with their designs a bit more. Mii's hair looks almost exactly like Miku's and it's hard to see her as her own character. i do like her outfit though. Kiri's hair reminds me of Rin and the outfit seems a little unbalanced. she's got a plain yellow tank top and then this really detailed blue skirt, i think it'd be more balanced if she had a blue jacket or something too. that's just my opinion though!

Could you tell me what series the Rin you are talking about is from? I do worry about Mii's hair. I suppose I would have to talk to a legal expert about whether or not I would get a cease and desist from Miku's company because of it.

Rin from VOCALOID, same as Miku. and yeah i mean, i wouldn't even worry about the legality of it, i would worry more that your readers would only ever think of that character as Miku or a 'Miku rip-off'

Kiri's design would look more balanced if her shirt had blue trim matching her skirt. Mii has a cool and distinctive outfit, but the hair makes her look too much like Miku although Mii doesn't have the exact hair color as Miku. It's the combination of long teal hair with that style of hair accessory, and the way the front of her hair is styled. If she had a different style of hair accessory, it wouldn't seem so similar, and if her hair were shorter or longer, or weren't in pigtails, or the front of her hair was styled differently.
