I'm still relatively new to the game, but my current comic project is an adaptation of a session that I played in last year so there's that haha.
My first exposure was back in 2015-2016, my roommate in college (who I had been friends with since middleschool) apparently had been playing D&D for a long time and invited our friend group to try out a game with him as the DM. It was a pretty fun time but... I found that I wasn't particularly fond of roleplaying with that particular group or at least a few of the members who were the most into it. That game lasted a few months and kinda fell apart following graduation. Some of them went on to play other campaigns together, but I didn't end up playing again.
Fast forward to 2020, some friends in a Pokemon Draft league discord server proposed the idea of starting a campaign with some of the league participants. We thought "what the heck, why not?" so that campaign started in June of last year. I had a little experience under my belt from my previous game, but it had been years since I last played and I still had the least know-how at the (virtual) table, but it was still lots of fun Fun enough to draw as a comic, anyways! That campaign ended in December, but we picked up another player and started a new campaign in the same setting in January, which is ongoing~ It's definitely been something fun to add in the way of social interaction in these current times where I haven't been able to see my irl friends basically at all, and has allowed me to connect with these new friends from the draft league on a deeper level
edit: I forgot to mention, another fun recent experience was participating in a one-shot with some artist friends of mine on Twitch in january! A few of us had some experience playing and a couple others were interested in trying it out, so that was super fun! We're hoping to do a 2nd session someday but haven't found time to just yet. Sadly the VOD for the first session didn't get saved, though
