Patience. What you showed there is a dialogue tag. It is fine when you have a long dialogue to quickly show who is talking, but the dialogue is far more interesting to read when you can see how the characters move and what they feel while talking. So, when you notice that you have a few tags like:
asked, WHILE DOING THIS
replied, AS THEY DID THAT
it's a red flag to go over the scene and see if the following things are missing:
backdrop of the scene
it might feel boring or repetitive to add it in, but without it, the text will just skim over the surface, and you won't have a deep, layered narrative that immerses someone. You already see the scene in your head, it takes patience to have it down.
But, the fair warning: it won't bring you reads per se, just the satisfaction of the job well-done
