It was a long time ago now, like years before Kickstarter was even a thing, but I did print and sell copies of my old webcomic, Fan Dan Go.
I did 100 pages (the full first story arc, written and drawn by just me alone, same as my current comic), perfect bound, gloss cover lamination. Printed through Inky Little Fingers (a UK printer, pretty good service) Unit cost was in the £5 per unit region because I did a limited print run. Sold them at £8 each, some online, but most of them at comics events. They were also really useful to give to potential clients and people I was doing business with as a freelancer because the polished finish on the books (thanks to having a very talented designer best friend who happens to draw an awesome comic here on Tapas) really showed my work in a great light.
Overall, I managed to sell enough to at least cover my costs, so I was happy. It wasn't my first printed book exactly, but it was my first and only that was a solo book, not a team anthology, and the only book I've ever self-published and printed in colour.
If I did a printed edition now, I'd probably raise funds via kickstarter, since that'd cover my costs up front and also be great publicity.
