I used to read shoujo in high school, actually a lot of my ~kawaii~ reading material came from my dude friends, then my chick friend got me into heteronormative gay porn (yaoi), and the difference in the lead cast made me too interested to go back. Now I just read webcomics, and complain about problematic garbage in the romance genre, lmao! Haven't read a published Japanese comic in ages.

Interestingly enough though, while Gekkan Shoujo has its shoujo vibes, it is actually officially labeled a shounen, not shoujo - and I can see why. Apart from probably being serialised in a shounen magazine, its parody-themed, somewhat gaggy jokes aren't common in shoujo manga.

Oooh.. I just knew the author penned Oresama Teacher so I assumed that Nozaki ran in some shoujo mag too, but now that I think about it, idr seeing such a format in any shoujo mag. So the shoujo vibes come from the author being a shoujo manga author, heh.
But, yes, the only thing that determines whether a manga is shoujo/shounen/josei/seinen is the magazine, as in, the demographic. Nozaki is aimed at boys thus shounen.

I love reading shoujo manga, I have the kind of relationship love-hate with those, in case you ask is because I usually get mad with the protagonist or with other things xD I was reading Kamisama Hajimemashita, there I got mad but not with the protagonist, I got mad with Tomoe, and now I'm mad with the author cause KJHDKJSHFKSFHLSDHKSA! D:<!!! (if you read the manga to the latest then you understand my feelings ;-; )

YUP, it's what you see here, she's a fujoshi, but not only that, she used to be a fat fujoshi girl called Serinuma, everyone usually were nice to her and her life was pretty nice aswell, she liked to ship her classmates, until one day she was reading an update of a manga and see her favorite character die, because of that she got depressed and suddenly lost weight and now everyone are in love with her. This manga is funny af xD
The author, Junko-sama is actually known for her yaoi manga like Abarenbou Kareshi, Starlike Words and Kasa no shita Futari.
I also read Hirunaka no Ryuusei, I remember I was with a friend on chat and she was reading it and she was making me compny cause oh my God I suffered too much reading this I had my OTP ready but for some reason Suzume went with the other dude which was obviously not for her and ghhh, still enjoyed it and loved the ending xD cause my otp became canon <3

Some that i liked that a can tell the name now: Angel Sacntuary, Zettai Kareshi, Ouran Host Club, Fushigi Yugi, Wandering Son (THAT ONE I LOVE SO MUCH!!! super cute, and super in day with the themes).

Aww, I started reading that one a while back. I was so disappointed that they didn't keep her fat, and hardly anyone payed attention to her until she got "pretty", also how she got skinny was crazy impractical (and hopefully didn't give any ignorant kids ideas with how to lose weight). But it was funny and cute while I read it, despite all their flaws, Junko's style was a guilty pleasure of mine.

Ikr, at first I was like you, like "suuure, all the guys didn't give a damn wabout her but now tht she got "pretty" everyone like her..." But there were two things that made me change my mind, the first I always liked (and is still my fav) is Mutsumi cause he was still nice to her before the makeover. And my mind changed after the episode in which she turns back to her old self and Igarashi RE-falls for her so she likes her in all the ways and I found that cute, he also became my fav, but I CAN NOT LIKE Nanashima, I despise him, he just likes Serinuma when she's thin and he doesn't even want to understand her obsession to anime and yaoi things, he just do so Serinuma might fall for him (I hope not and only stayes as a crush cause he looks like her dear Shion xD)

I just get so passionate when it comes to manga shoujo, no idea why, but usually I finish all the chapters one has, I devour them xD
Gekkan Shoujo is great, I always feel sorry for her tho xD

Oh yeah, I knew about the guy who already liked her, I was just a bit miffed about the exaggeration of everyone else suddenly liking her. Fat people go through enough crap without ignorant creators throwing them in as the "ugly" turned "pretty" character, not only does it continue the trend of fat-shaming, but it's just generally disrespectful (just manga with racist stereotypes).
Wow, does she stay fat, or has the comic not gotten very far with that yet? I mean... I really wish I was the type who can ignore things that are morally wrong in media, but unfortunately I just can't not criticize, and be bothered by those things when it's disguised as something meant to be cute (like romanticized rape in yaoi, if it were actually categorized as rape porn rather than romance, and people didn't see it as romantic I wouldn't be so bothered). <_<

I know, I had the same so that's why I don't like the other guys. THOUGH, I totally like the crosplayer xD she likes Serinuma in both forms. I actually liked the message Junko got with Igarashi falling for her with her old self because then he liked his personality and you have a contrast of the characters who likes her just physically and even called him crazy for saying how much Serinuma looked cute in her old self xD
Nanashima with the shota of the turn makes her get back to thin by making her do exercise with the regard they'd do yaoi things for her. And she stayed thin until some chapters later from what I read, I stopped cause the time.
I understand your point very well, I just hope Junko gets to pull off the characters well and give a good message that the inside is what matters and not the external things :3

Lol I dunno, while the yaoi fanatic character as a main was funny, I think I'll stick to Pochamani by Hirama Kaname for doing a better job as far as having a heavy set main character. Even though the love interest being a fat fetishist was creepy, and it certainly wasn't an amazing comic, at least the main female was adorable. But more power to you for being able to get into that comic, you are certainly less of a crotchety bag than I am.

Nah, if you don't like something none can force you to read it, I'm sometimes too picky but in shoujo I guess I'm not that picky and it's the genre in which I actually SHOULD be.
Btw with fetishist made me remember this romance, comedy,action...
