Don't worry, parents always see you at your (seemingly) laziest no matter what you're doing. Most of the time it's out of concern though, as immigrant parents especially have never lived in a world where one can make money doing hobbyist activities on the internet lol
Everyone around me is pretty supportive of art as my hobby. I quit my day job to try my hand at a film competition a year ago and my coworkers were actually impressed by my 'courage' to do what I love. Even my parents were cautiously supportive and respected my choices as an adult. But alas I learned the cold truth where one has to eventually pay for insurance, mortgages, and eventually (gasp) children so I've gone back to a design-related day job until art becomes financially feasible.
Also, being male and the 'default' breadwinner makes it lot harder for Asian parents to accept too. They've would've cared less if my sister went to art school >.>
