Do you base your characters on people you know? If so, how many of them know?

The characters of NCC are mostly based on fictional influences, but the spirit in them comes from people I knew in junior high and high school, particularly everyone I ever shared a Spanish class with.

One of the main characters of my webcomic is partially based on my mom. She knows this. It's funny because she acts more like my character all the time.
My sister wishes someone in the comic was based on her, but really there isn't XD

A lot of my characters are based off real friends of mine.
Throughout the years, the story went through a lot of changes and so did the characters. So, before I started making books, I reached out to all of them to check if I could still use them in the story. They were all fine with it, even after I told them that they went through some BIG changes (some names & some personalities) and they're not as they remembered them. They still loved the idea of being a character in a comic book, so they're still in it.

The main character of my novel has similarities with me and one of his classmates who becomes his best friend is based off of one of my friends irl

I am working on something that will start showing up on the site at around the end of May (for those in PST), and I put in myself as well as a few friends and my immediate family members. My friends and family don't know, and I'm kinda scared if they did get to know. I'm actually hoping that they don't get to know until the story progresses enough, really.

My closest friends know, but to those more distant ones who don't, I think it would be wild if they found out through friends of friends of friends, and their heads exploded when they figured out it was really about them.

I pour a lot of my personal failings, idiosyncrasies, and experiences into my characters, mixed with a lot of more surface level elements and events from friends and people I know. Then I mix in the backstories I wrote for the characters. I haven't told anyone who influenced a character about it yet, and if they read it, I doubt they'd pick it up since it's all so melded together into a hot story soup. It adds a lot of depth for me as a writer though, to include these things.

So it's a bit of me and a bit of everyone I know? That's pretty normal isn't it?

Characters in my comic are loosely based off people and myself.

For instance. I have a friend who I nickname JJ and his stature or height as it were was him being the shortest in the group. So I based off a character (professor Jeffery Jefferson) of that fact with that being his initials. And his height being and small as can be. Lol, his personality is based off my social anxiety where I happen to freak out over the slightest thing because I'm afraid of the world because of my mental disorder so I show that in the comic.

Malicious is actually based off of my Science/Math teacher and my dad. Facial features of my dad but my teachers hair and facial hair being exaggerated. As during science class a chemical reaction happened (can't remember what exactly) with fire and burnt off his eye brows and front of his hair so he had that same hair do for awhile xD as for his name, it's based off a song from my youth.

Jets personality is of someone I want to inspire to be. So I can be confident with myself and so sorta a personal goal incarnate personality wise.

Katrina not too much but I named her after the Hurricane. As she went through changes.

And Leon is based off a childhood friend to the point where we were inseparable. So I added him in the story. As for personality well, I'll tell because his naming convention and general existence is spoiler territory lol

I generally just use traits from family members in characters. But it's usually not an exact copy, just a vague shadow of them.

I have characters that are based on real life people. They aren't fully like them though. Noone knows and I don't think they would even notice.

I have a story that is based on my great grandmother's childhood. (on hiatus because of time)
The oldest girl is my great grandmother (she's in her 80s)

Nice! I do a little melding but not much. I took a story about what happened between me and my high school boyfriend who transitioned and put it on a different person who has an ex-fiancee, but now that ex-fiancee is an ex-wife to that person and he went through more trauma. That part isn't coming out until Chapter 52, though!
