Do you ever think of redrawing your comic and improve it?

I think about it constantly. Maybe one day. Probably only if I publish though unless I think that my first couple pages are actively turning people off from reading my comic

If it’s small tweaks for readability or mobile formatting then it’s worthwhile. I wouldn’t go back and redraw the whole thing though. I get the impulse, my early episodes look a bit rough because I was just starting as an artist. The thing is that in a year I will probably think the same thing about what I’m making right now. Your art will always be changing and improving. It’s better to let your older material be a testament to how far you have come than to be caught in a constant loop of trying to redraw the whole comic over and over again.

That being said, if you get featured as a paid creator on Tapas or Webtoon they may require you to redraw some episodes for quality control.

I've been thinking about giving my series, The guild of the Maltese Falcon, a complete overhaul. For many reasons. But the main one is because I may have jumped the gun on it entirely and just started the series without a real solid plotline or a fleshed out environment. I also want to try and make it look more cleaner then what I've done with it so far. But I think that would take sometime to do. I just hope I don't really overwhelm myself with all of these little side projects I got cooked up for in the future.

my art style just keep changing so if i would redraw the first pages, the rest would probably look odd so i would have to redraw the whole first chapter.

@rumpenstiltzkin that's true! totally relate on this, because I'm thinking , what if I draw this particular chapter and the next one looks odd because my artstyle just change?. ugh and then thinking you have to change everything which is really take a lot of time

Not for my current comic since I'm not going to rewrite it and art wise does 100% matter, since the main thing most people who reads webcomics aware of is they also follow the journey of the web comic artist themselves. Its both a story journey and an art journey. A complete change during its run to kinda ruins the magic for me, unless its a one off.

However I have another comic that would undergo a complete reboot and rewrite in the future. Essentially making an entirely new comic. Mostly once I finish me current one, I'll pick it back up since it was more to see if I can stick with a project for a year (success) and to learn my strengths and weakness as a comic artists (success). So a reboot would be me actually writing a comic with the skills gained and more. Thou completely different so not just a redraw

I posted a comic on webtoon a month ago and it stayed for about three weeks before I decided to delete it because I just can't bear to see my awful drawing. Maintaining the characters is really hard (I swear my MC looked different in each panel) I already re-drawn ep1-3 for about three times now. No matter how much I try, i just can't stop feeling that my drawings are terrible. I even thought of just giving up and stick to writing novels but I'm not sure if I can pull it off since my comic is horror and I'm terrible at that.

A friend told me that readers actually wants to see the improvements of the creator in terms of drawing so she said that it's fine to post "terrible" ep/chapters at first. Is that true?

i started to re-draw my comic as well, mostly because a) my coloring style changed like 4-5 times over the years and really want to have just one style now. And b) there was some poorly thought and cringe dialogue which I want to fix a bit and at the same time make character motivations a bit more clear. (and like others have said, the first pages are important getting new readers so I don't want anyone to first see the stuff I drew like 10 years ago yikes)

Yea, plenty of webcomics start out pretty rough only to get better over time. You shouldn't put so much pressure on yourself to have"perfect" art work for your comic, especially when you're starting out.

Sometimes it depends. Depends on if you want to move on to a new story. Redrawing an old comic is very time consuming.

I redrew all the pages of mine and that held me back a lot. I'm ready to move on but at the same time, I couldn't let go of the terrible start to my comic and the terrible art. I've also considered redrawing my first ever but limit it to like under 200 pages or something.

Really depends on you. Sometimes it's a fun before/after comparison but gotta move on after awhile.

I always fear that if start redrawing old comic pages (no matter how much i want to) it might end up in a cycle of having to do more and more as the comic goes on. Especially if the pages are still serviceable and only really look bad to your eyes because you've learned an know better ways to convey the scene. I'd say only do it if they're really bad and/or you have the time bc sometimes it might take a bit longer than you initially might think to redo stuff

I'm one of those people who likes to see how an artist has improved over the years. It's fun to see how their proportions, coloring and page layouts get better/ change as their style changes. I think it's because I'm an artist myself and like to learn from other artists.

On the other hand it's so easy to drop a comic if the art/ storytelling is bad at the beginning. An artist can promise their story gets better but some people will not read through 10s or 100s of pages of bad to mediocre art to get there. Whether it's a good or a bad thing, the fact is that there's so much well drawn and told stuff for free out there. I think at least the beginning should be well done and eye catching if you want to gain more than a few readers.

I've seen a few comics that have a little note at the top of page one explaining how the art improves, but I'm not sure if this would help?

I started my comic ten years ago and came back to it recently, and the difference is quite noticeable (I think anyways ) Whoops!

I'm slowly redrawing the first few chapters since I also want to add a couple pages as well.

When I started my webcomic, I just started drawing digitally and I think it shows quite a bit. Some of the colouring looks quite off.
