Like others have said, it's definitely common! I will say though, if you're ever applying for jobs using it, it's best to either tailor your portfolio site to suit the needs of the client or just keep different sites for different things. For example, if you're applying for web design, they probably don't want to see your comic work, and vice versa. It's cool to have a few little buffer things in there to show versatility, but your focus should be the kind of work that you'd be doing in the job you're applying for. Don't make them wade through a ton of art to get to the meat of what they want to see, and ALWAYS put your best foot forward. If you're wishy washy about some of your work, it doesn't belong in your portfolio. Keep it succinct, focused, and recent.
I have my portfolio on carbonmade because it was really easy to customize and make categories and toggle them on and off... so I can just switch off any of these categories temporarily if a client doesn't need to see it.
