Do you start with storyboarding or with character sheet/design or something else entirely?

I started in 1983 when I was 8 together with my older brother.
We drew at least 4 pages a day every day. I drew with a lot of other
kids through my life, now I´m teaching kids how to draw comics.
I never met a single kid who first wanted to sit down and write a story
and in my opinion that´s how you explore the medium which is visual
storytelling with the focus on visual and not with the focus on words.

Then with experience your process will automatically change and you´ll
get more structured and then it starts to make more sense to have a finsihed script,
character sheets, to know how to draw better backgrounds etc.

I have several ideas for your interview comic by the way and it can work.
Even the sitting down interview idea can work as a frame, I have several comics
in my comic collection with a reporter

The interivew situation can be a frame of a series of stores. Here is the reporter asking
a guy who´s been abducted by aliens. First panel is the start of the interview frame,
second panel starts the story with a caption box of the guy talking. Panel 3 is action.
Panel 4 is a flashback to the interview to give it the atmosphere of a guy being interviewed.
Panel 5 can be back in the UFO and then the story continues. The interviewer can also
ask in between questions.

IMO / mindset everything is possible in a comic and there are no bad ideas or scenarios which
are impossible to draw. There are some ideas which are maybe too complex or complicated
and have to be broken down / simplified to work in comic format, but in general the best
advice is not to overthink and just do it with confidence

That doesn´t sound like heresy to me at all and like an answer I can 100%
relate to, that´s also how my brother draws, he is 52 now and one of the
fastes sequential artists that I know. I think about a start and an end
and do some prep work when I draw a comic but I often just start
with sketches and then take it from there.

The Marvel method of writing a comic was usually super rough with some
story beats, then the penciler sketches the pages and they gave them a lot
of artistic freedom and then adapted to what they drew and worked over
the speech bubbles. Thousands of famous comics were produced like that
