This isn't a perfect fix, but what if instead of the ratings system take the average of all the ratings, which would tank from a single low rating, and instead take the median of the ratings? That way if only a single person gave a bad rating, it won't affect the overall rating. Another way I thought of doing this is to still take the average of the ratings, but instead put a lower value for any outliers. So like if a comic has a lot of 7s ratings and one 1 rating, the 1 star would have the same value of like half a vote instead of one vote, and would raise or lower in value depending on its ratio to the other votes. Problems I see with this is that this also makes it harder to raise ratings as well as lower them, and it might make ratings wonky for new series.
