Does tapas punish hiatuses?

I don't expect anyone to know for sure I guess I'm just asking for your theories / experiences. I started a comic last year and it's been going okay, we have to work so progress is slow which is too bad but we do our best. We had some subs trickle in here and there. Then we were forced to take several months off unexpectedly. Since then we updated twice and.... nothing. Is it possible that the hiatus caused my comic not to show up when I update it, or is this just in my head and totally unrelated?

You can actually check when you are publishing something if it's in Fresh, it's not like Tapas would be hiding your comic in the list from you specifically. If it's not showing (be sure to check next time), it could be a bug, so tell the mods if that's the case.
But overall a few months of hiatus are hard on every small comic sub count.

Thank you! I'll have to do that. I didn't lose any subs although I'm sure the people who subbed last year are just not as active now.

Last year, I took a break because of COVID.
I started posting again in February of this year, I believe. And I only lost a few subs. Nothing big.
Prior to that, however, my update schedule was pretty sporadic.
One subscriber commented on one of my last updates that I was giving them their yearly update

Aw, no Tapas doesn't "punish" hiatuses. It's your work and you can go at your own pace! I do know that sometimes readers will lose interest, move on, etc. That's just a part of being a creator. I personally publish once a month. I once was told that "isn't enough". But eh, I'm writing a novel and a side manga for that novel. Once a month is good enough for my brain and my readerbase. + You know you'll get my work on a schedule so yay!

I've been on a long-ass hiatus for two of my main creative novels for a long time. I had recently jumped back in the fray just a couple months ago, and while the subscriber count has seen a slight downturn (then a small boost), viewer count hasn't been the same as before. I think its lowered some. But that's how it goes sometimes. You leave for a long time, people think you're dead lol.

But, no Tapas doesn't punish hiatuses. Some people just aren't patient while others are.

I worry about that, too.
My problem is that I pay my artists to illustrate. Sometimes, they're busy doing their own thing and can't draw my scripts. Or sometimes, money's tight and I need to hold out for a bit.
Fortunately, though, I only lose two or three subscribers. But I make those up again.
