@Kelheor They have! I'll feature some most commonly found and unique cultivars! (long post, beware!)
Pisang raja (king banana), the most common banana here. It is medium sized, sweet when ripe, fragrant, good for dessert and snack.
Pisang susu (milk banana). This cute banana tastes milky-sweet. Its small size (the size of finger) makes it perfect for snacking. Also comes in red variant (much rarer)
Pisang tanduk (horn banana), maybe we can call it plantain? I'm not sure? It's big, tastes less sweet, and better when fried or processed.
Pisang barangan, It was on season recently and originated from Sumatra. It has naturally red freckles (it's not spoiled), tastes sweet, and fragrant.
Pisang raja udang/ pisang udang (shrimp banana) a.k.a red banana (it's different with the Australian red cavendish banana, red dacca). It has distinguishable red peel, but the taste is not very different only a bit sour. There is a myth attributed to it, and it's forbidden to eat for some people.
Bonus:
We also have the largest banana plant, the Musa ingens. It can grow into 15-20 meters in height, and perhaps one of the largest herbaceous plants. Unfortunately, the fruit is small and inedible.
PS: there are so MANY cultivars of bananas and I myself can't really distinguish all of them (either by look and taste) Even the "Pisang Raja" has tons of sub-cultivar (example is pisang raja udang).
Maybe some of you recalled the infamous "Blue Java" banana that is said tastes like vanilla ice cream. It's a Hawaiian made hybrid banana, it doesn't originate here and I have never seen any. (And no, it doesn't always has its blue color)
