Ever felt bad about having to scrap something?

Wheter it be an idea or a finished product, what parts of your novel/comic do you feel like reeeeally crappy about scrapping? I ended up (kinda) finishing three chapters of MikoMooMaa only to realize I like writing stories more than making comics, more than 60+ pages and months of work down the gutter

was a neat learning experience though, got better at art and stuff

I had to scrap about 10-12 pages of my comic, because I was unhappy about the story direction. Thankfully it was all buffer, but it completely wiped me out of buffer, and demotivated me just a little to keep going.
But I didn't stop, and now I'm happier than ever that I ditched those pages. The story is better now than it would have been. And the final product is something I can stand behind and be proud of.

Even though it hurt...that was only temporary and I kept pushing forward regardless.

It depends on how attached I am

I had one story where I'd managed to sketch out a large chunk of the starting pages and as I progressed on the writing realized that none of it worked. I loved the characters but there wasn't any way I could think of fixing the story itself and scrapped the entire original script (only to have the drive it was on get damaged later). So I wound up rewriting from scratch. It hasn't been as fluid rewriting it the second time around since ideas related to the story don't come to me in a linear fashion but at the least I can still work with the characters that I like.

I've scrapped many paintings for my novel because I ended up unsatisfied. They're still around, just not published. Since it helps me learn, I don't feel bad! More inspired to do better.

I'm creating a novel here on Tapas. I finished one whole arc of my story Rock & Rhun as a webcomic before I got really tired of drawing talking heads. I loved drawing the most interesting scenes but I never enjoyed drawing the scenes that just kicked the plot down the road.

But when I started doing novels I realized that I liked the story I had there and rewrote it as a novel. It allowed me to go more in depth with the plot and begin fleshing out the world more. And I still add illustrations to the novel when I have a scene that will have one I want to visualize. Now I've written past the comic and into a second arc/book. So while I stopped the comic it wasn't a waste at all.

Yes, but I feel like if it's for the greater good, then it be like that and it's fine. I've scrapped gaming projects, comics, portions of my current project, but I'm pleased with the path I'm on so it's all good. You're right, it's a good learning experience. I've gained a lot creatively as well.

I worked on a project several years ago where it was a comic tied to doing javascripting--but because I didn't really know what I was doing, and because of some updates with browsers, it totally broke--the whole thing turned into a garbled mess so honestly I had to scrap it. It was a lot of work but eh it happens. At least I learned to uh make sure I have a version of the comic that works as a standalone without all the fancy stuff on top.

Yeah, there's generally a lot of stuff that I would have liked to include in my comics, that I just couldn't fit in because of plot and or pacing. So it generally gets moved to the copy paste file of deleted scenes because I just can't bring myself to delete it entirely most of the time (but not all the time)

I hate scrapping my dumb jokes / scenarios that I can't figure out how to fit into the story.

Sometimes I'm able to move them around and find a home for them, other times they will never be seen because there's just no opportunities in the story for it.

Wrote a prologue to my story, ended up cutting it out because I think it spoiled too much for later on and also maybe didn't fit with the beginning tone. It was unpleasant to remove because I enjoyed writing it so much. I'm still holding onto it on my computer, not sure if I should salvage it or not.

I only scrap something if I feel that it's shite that makes the story worse, so nope.

Nothing is scrapped everything is either on Hiatus or getting "reworked"

I scrapped a story I had finished and uploaded online about 80% of, because it got way more popular than my main projects—and its fans clearly weren't enjoying the story for the reasons I'd written it for.

Do I feel bad about that? That's...complicated.

I've scrapped 2 or so chapters from SPIRE just cuz they didn't advance the story much (they were more just a case of 'I really want to write it') and was pretty disappointed for a while. But at the same time, less work for me so I can't complain too much.

I’ve scrapped so many ideas, but a lot of characters find their way back in another story. For me, it balances itself out, you just have to wait for it to click sometimes.
