All right, now that I’ve done a major refactoring of my project, it’s time to reconstruct my initial pitch into something slightly less horrible.
General information about Evotale
Evotale is a low commitment open collaboration project where anyone could join or leave at any time.
Primary objective
Primary goal of my project is to have a comprehensive environment for low commitment hobby past-time and practice so it’s not a job offer, it’s not “looking for an artist to draw my comic for me” and it isn’t aimed at people with fully developed projects because my goal is to have a project where everyone would be able to have at least some amount of creative control. Personally I don’t mind working on someone else’s material but working on a fully developed project feels like work rather than a hobby, especially when project owner requires certain graphical style and strict deadlines.
Target audience
- People with ideas and nothing else. Technically we can try to establish new project from scratch and develop your ideas into a full working package but currently I prefer to work on ideas that would be possible to incorporate into my project framework.
- People who want to try\practice story making, scripting or drafting in collaboration and don’t have a project to work on.
- People who want to practice character\environment\panel designs without having to commit to a long-term project.
I have “no wasted assets” policy so if you have created\found something you want to use in your personal project as well, you can just disassemble part of my project and use it, this goes for both graphical and logical assets.
Required skills, styles, qualifications
Any skill level or graphical style is acceptable as long as it serves its purpose: stick figures can be used for schemes and general layouts, ideas can be fleshed out for further production, designs can be reused in multiple projects and so on.
Software and file formats
Software: Blender 2.8, Inkscape 0.9, Krita 3, Libre Office 4
Just like all my previous projects from the Evotale series, my plan is to make an entire
project from scratch on open-sourced software. I'm not against using other software as
well but we have to make sure that all the output formats are compatible with open-
sourced software so anyone would be able to join and work on a project without buying or
installing anything on any common OS.
Working file formats: .blend, .svg, .psd, .kra, .png, .docx, .txt
We can also use .ai3, .dxf, .obj, .fbx, .dae as additional working formats. .jpeg can be used
as a final posting format due to its small size but I prefer to use lossless formats for work.
Project specifications
For more detailed information you can proceed into my Evotale general worldbuild document, my entire project repository is also opened for anyone so if anyone wants to take a look at my project assets you can either start from the worldbuild document and go from there or just visit my repository directly.
Evotale story blocks
Currently Evotale has two active story blocks. My current outlines are practically placeholders which demonstrate how I work and one of the possible ways to implement my concepts, they can be either developed further or reconstructed into something else. Every key element is mapped out to form a complete working structure but most of the things can be changed into something else. My general intention is to propose something to start from.
Name: Evotale: Tar Bulls (story outline document)
Genre: Fantasy, deconstruction. Key aspects of the module are action and combat tactics.
Rating: R
Estimated length: 20-40 pages
Module description: War between “good” and “evil” creatures has ended and “evil” creatures were banished to the world underneath the ground. “Everyone lived happily ever after” and after a while groups of adventurers began to emerge and raid “evil” creature’s settlements. Fed up with being used as a hunting game, “evil” creatures started seeking for ways to counteract “good” ones and eventually found crystals that helped them become much more intelligent. Unaware of other crystal’s properties, “evil” creatures unwittingly started to spread contamination, slowly leading the world to a massive ecological disaster.
Tar Bulls follows a group of typical "heroes" on their raid to one of the underworld settlements and then switches to the group of typical fantasy cannon fodder whose purpose is to defend the settlement and dispose of "heroes".
Current status: currently block has a possible basic outline to work from, drafts for some key environments, some drafts for possible creature designs.
Further development plans: I’ve laid out a very basic outline but we can change its general flow to something different or proceed with development by refining story elements.
Name: Evotale: Noosphere-2 (story outline document)
Genre: Fantasy with bits of sci-fi, survival horror. Essentially Monstrum in techno-fantasy environment.
Rating: R
Estimated length: 20-40 pages
Module description: Massive ecological disaster caused a massive exodus of sentient creatures from one continent to another, several years later a mysterious organization emerged and made a call for expedition to the abandoned continent, several groups of adventurers were assembled and sailed away. One of the groups discovered a huge abandoned complex floating in the middle of an ocean; they suffered a shipwreck and some of the survivors managed to reach the complex entrance. Having no other options they venture deep into the complex in hopes to find a way to escape and proceed to their destination.
Current status: currently block has large repositories of references, possible basic outline to work from, drafts for some key environments, possible character descriptions, some drafts for possible creature designs.
Further development plans: first and foremost we have to finalize the general sequence of events: my basic outline may work but we can add or change something.
Communication methods
Currently I'm using CAOMouse's Discord server (I think it's this one, took it from another collaboration proposal thread) for communication but you can contact me on Discord directly via Firemoth#9688 or just leave a comment here, I could also use an e-mail for communication but I prefer to share my e-mail in private.
