Fake Twitter pages for characters?

Maybe it's too much effort to keep up with allll the time...but I had fun making up a twitter page for a character after he tweets in the story. I was thinking about just making it more permanent thing going forward (IE, getting an actual twitter account setup) and using it as a way to wrap in some more jokes at the end of episodes/chapters.

Good idea? Useless idea? Middling idea?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I've seen web series creators do similar things for vlog-styled shows to make it seem more realistic. It can be a cool way to make your series feel more immersive and possibly more interactive. I don't think I've seen anyone try this with a comic yet, but just because I haven't seen it done doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

Worst case scenario, no one feels like following your character on twitter. I don't see any problem with giving it a shot.

Yeah go for it! I did that for my main 3 characters in my comic Mixtape. They try and promote the comic and argue with each other and sign the tweet so you know which one is talking. I'll follow yours if you do decide to make it. This is their twitter

I have three twitter accounts for my characters! They interact, retweet stuff relevant to their characters, and react to some plot related things. I've featured one of them tweeting before so it's definitely not farfetched to tie into the story. : D

i think theyre really fun, and definitely a good idea - depending on the story.

a good example is bittie in check please!, because its set in college with lots of domestic shit we dont see, that we can hear about. its also, i think (i dont read it), set up as the character vlogs his life, so it makes perfect sense.

but then, say, it wouldnt really work for a high-fantasy serious comic. usually. i dunno, if you could pull it off, a twitter where the MC complains in realtime about these stupid fucking monsters and a stupid bloody curse and these complete wankers and their stupid swords, thatd be fun. but my brain gets caught at the 'this character has no idea what twitter IS' barrier. maybe most people dont care abt that.

tldr: cool idea, great extra content for fans, great promotion method

it's a marvel title, not a webcomic, but Squirrel Girl does this! Squirrel Girl herself does a lot of promotion and retweeting of things relevant to her comics, but all the twitter accounts that come up in the comics are all real twitter accounts that occasionally tweet at each other

Her squirrel sidekick, TippyToe, ALSO has an official twitter account, but as far as I can tell just uses it to make squirrel noises at people and retweet pictures of squirrels.

When I've made twitter accounts for D&D characters, we kinda saw it as, obviously no they're not CANONLY tweeting, but seeing what they would complain about online after having to fight the lord of demons is a fun way to explore their thoughts. Who subtweets? Who vaguetweets? Who tweets emotional thoughts exclusively in his first language so others can't read it?
I thought about it for my own comic, but ultimately it wasn't the fantasy aspect that deterred me, but that it'd facilitate communication too much for something that couldn't be canon. Some of the characters would come across completely differently if they had a comfortable method of communication, which would rob the story of a slower discovery of what this person is like.

I've been thinking about doing this too! It sounds like an extremely fun idea! Like was mentioned, at worst they simply won't get any followers and that will be that. :'D I suppose I could add that nothing ventured is nothing gained, right? It can't hurt to try.

Do it when your work gets popular. I feel making a page for characters no one knows about is kinda self defeating. When you have a substantial fanbase they'll be excited for anything related to the comic they like and by substantial I mean knowing you have a decent number of active readers.

I think it's a great idea. It brings more of an immersive feel to your story. Kind of reminds me of Mystic Messenger in a way.

That sounds like a pretty good idea!
After reading your comment it's left me with some ideas of doing something similar for my own characters! Though it does sound like a lot of work, I'd suggest it if you have somewhat of a following to begin with! Keeping up with your own social media can be time consuming, so I can only imagine maintaining multiple would be a lot of effort!
