Favourite comics (on here and in general)

Here's my list:

Lackadaisy, Awkward Zombie, Hark a Vagrant, Octopus Pie (sometimes NSFW). And Slightly Damned for the sake of nostalgia.

EDIT: About inspiring, Lackadaisy showed me that webcomics could be beautifully rendered, and that cartoony expressions could work with that. Hark a Vagrant reminded me that history rules. Octopus Pie showed me how interesting someone's life can be. And Slightly Damned had a great community back in the day that supported me when I was a tiny whiny girl starting a webcomic.

I prefer western comics, but I'm mostly talking about indie webcomics in general. Most of my favorites are not on Tapastic, but here they are:

Todd Allison and the Petunia Violet
Lackadaisy
Paranatural
Camp Weedonwantcha

They've all inspired me to make comics of my own, especially in regards to creating compelling and relatable characters. Also, all these stories have a nice blend of humor and seriousness, which I hope to achieve in my own comic, as well.

I prefer Western comic. I don't like manga's and before people are gonna kill me. I don't think manga's are bad it's just not my thing. My favorite has to be X-men, but from the comics here on Tapastic there are too many to choose. Heart of Keol I always look forward too just like Gamercat, The Creators, The Awkward Yeti, Creep, Not quite there, Sprout, Witchy and I forgot a dozen of them.

Sarah's Scribbles and The Gamercat led me to Tapastic. Both I had seen floating around on the web. Since then, I've found a lot comics here that I like, including Chibi Reiko, HJ Story, Homeycomb, Morsel, BogGirl, Meet Sally!, Doodle For Food, 4-Panel Life, Alien 101, Beefpaper, Color Drops and Torakun.

I don't have a preference in terms of art style. I just want to enjoy what I read.

I wrote for a manga that won't be up until later this summer, but it wasn't inspired by any of my favorites. It's original story inspired by the high school genre.

I also love Stand Still Stay Silent.
It's a true piece of art with an amazing post apocalyptic world, beautiful backgrounds and lovable characters.

I mostly take inspiration from movies for my own stuff.
I wouldn't want to have a comic too similar to an existing one!

I don't prefer western comics over manga, or the other way around - they've pretty much equal to me.

As for favourite comics... Hellboy. I just love Hellboy. It's amazing in so many ways. The last time I had a serious cold, I took a day to huddle under a blanket and read all of the published volumes in one go, and I can't say I regret my decision; they work perfectly.

And yes, Hellboy has definitely inspired Grassblades in more ways than one. Partly in terms of atmosphere, partly in terms of structure, and partly in how Masahiro is as grumpy sober as Hellboy is when he's drunk. XD

I have a preference toward manga since I grew up reading it and watching anime. Although I'm not as obsessive as before (I used to even cosplay!), I still love reading it but am a whooole lot pickier now.

My favorites are Monster by Naoki Urasawa and Genshiken by Kio Shimoku! From my vocabulary of manga, these two series are one-of-a-kind and inspire me that with just the right execution, any story can be pulled off in any style.

In terms of western comics, I love reading indie titles but I'm not very knowledgeable of what to read (I just read any of the comics available in my school library). On Tapastic, I do love Les Normaux by KnightJJ and The Daily Struggle by Laurel.

My current favorite is One Pulus One (Korean only; found on Naver but not yet available on LINE). Good thrillers are hard to come by, but this one NAILS it. I can safely say it hasn't influenced my comic much, though, because I only discovered it very recently.

I can't say I have an all time favorite. If we get more specific, though, such as "favorite visual storytelling," "favorite depiction of urban environments," "holy crap dat bread-crumbing" etc... then I could start listing some.

I love space mullet so much. Have you checked out Daniel Warren Johnson's Darkhorse book "Ghost Fleet". It's fantastic as well.

My favourite comics are Solstoria and The Property of Hate...Solstoria's pretty and a cute lighthearted story about a girl who wants to be a knight. TPoH is a bizarrely beautiful psychological story about a girl who gets asked if she wants to be a hero that has a lot of "OH THAT'S WHAT THAT MEANS" lightbulbs in your head 20 pages later.

As for manga... I don't read a lot of those but Tokyo Akazukin was one of my favourites for how ridiculous its gore was, and Yandere Kanojo was the only comedy/romance manga I ever read that I enjoyed.

Right now I'm happily reading Dear Azzy, Demon house, Thicker then Blood and Greenblades.
When I was on Drunk Duck my reading list was MUCH larger (wanna say it broke 100) but for some reason I cant find myself reading very many comics anymore. :/

If you wanna read some web comic oldies; Bad Guy High and Lancaster Ghost Detective are still really good in my opinion.

I'm so glad to see someone here mention 2GAG. I think it's one of my favorite off-Tapastic comics, next to Awkward Zombie and Cyanide and Happiness. I also need to catch up though (do I smell a reading-comics-date in the near future?)
