Final fantasy 7 inspired comic

Have you ever read something on tapas that would remind you of Final Fantasy 6 or 7 ?

I am not after something in the same universe with the same characters. Just the same vibe.

Hmmmm, tricky request....

You might enjoy the run down dystopian punk setting and "ragtag sword girl versus corrupt corporate society" of Alien Heart. The creator is a massive fan of FF6 and 7, and I always think her work has a bit of that sort of vibe.

Post-apocalyptic grungy cyberpunk adventure with a Japanese sort of vibe and all sorts of weird environments? You might like Omekade:

Maybe a long shot, but you might potentially like... my comic? Bunch of dysfunctional friends with swords including protagonist with a huge sword and spikey hair, an evil long-haired prettyboy with incredible power and a modern Fantasy setting. Though I'll admit, I always think visually and tonally my work is more like FF8, 10 and 13 than 7, I am still a huge Final Fantasy fan, and my art is heavily influenced by Nomura, so... maybe?

My boyfriend's comic is inspired by FF7 amongst other franchises similar to it. It is slow-paced (the style was inspired by BLAME! ) so it might not be for everyone. He plans to have each of the issues drawn in a different style and pacing, they could also be read in any order. ^^
For now, he has one issue which is not finished but it's nearing the final fight.

He also wrote the book that's happening in the same universe, although it's only available on Amazon for now.
The book isn't slow-paced like the comic and a lot happens in one book.

Whatever happened to Steampunk anyway? Around, I dunno, the time Bioshock came out it was starting to become a fad that I feel never really took off. At least, when I look back on FF6 I think the steampunk aesthetic is one of the reasons it's still my favorite in the series.

@Nossumy : you can tell you boyfriend I love his work. I have quickly gone through it and it is the kind of thing I enjoy.

May I ask why ? Is it just to not get bored by repeating the same thing ?

Hi there!
The decision to make every issue differently was made for several reasons:
- for myself to keep trying out new stuff and evolving as an artist
- to keep things fresh and possibly attract more different people
- because different styles, pacing and presentation go better with different parts of my story and characters
But most importantly because every issue is going to be standalone enough for people to be able to dive right into any of them they find and then if they want more, they can read the other ones to expand their understanding of the world and story.

Take all of that with a grain of salt as I am struggling to finish this one as is and with the lack of support, I already had to change the release schedule from 2 episodes a week to one and might have to go every second week soon.
Worst case scenario, I'll finish this volume and have to continue the rest of the story as novels so that it gets completed in a reasonable timespan.
Regarding that, there are already 2 books out telling the story before the apocalyptic event that lead to the current state and many years before the comic started.
Think of it as what is the Hobbit or Silmarillion to the Lord of the Rings.
Yes the story is quite vast. If I have to I'd compare it to that of Xenogears first and foremost, although the influence came from more sides than I can count xD

I have only read half of it but I really enjoy it... which is usually not a good sign since I usually have very non maintsream tastes.

I have read a lot of comic books (French BD, American Comic books and Manga) and for what it's worth (not much really) I'd add your work directly to my top 10 (assuming the development is of the same quality).

Do you have vaguely anything similar you'd recommend ?

Haha, that's okay, I'm aware it's not mainstream.
I don't mind being niche if it means staying true to how the story was envisioned.

As for comic\manga similar to what you've seen in my work, I'd recommend anything from Tsutomu Nihei-sama:
Blame! (Definitely the most similar to my comic and my personal fav out of these, it also happens to be set in a city alike Midgar from FF7)
Aposims (Ningyou no Kuni in Japanese)
Biomega
Knights of Sidonia

-I've been told multiple times my work resembles Berserk although I don't see how but you can check it out. The main character and the villain have a similar feeling to Cloud and Sephiroth, now that I mention it.
-The manga The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún has a similar thing going on between the main characters as mine has, even though the setting is completely different but the artwork is supreme.

The story and characters are heavily inspired by 90's Squaresoft RPGs, so you might like them and\or the novels. I especially take great care of the villains since I grew up with the best of them like the ones from Final Fantasy 7 to 10, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Metal Gear saga, and others.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'll try the first 3 and since my hobby is learning Japanese they will be nice study material.

I have been thinking of a way I could give you a hand. I described in the first post I wrote on this forum :

I just want too share with you an idea for people who create manga to build an audience.
I have been studying Japanese for a few years. The community of Japanese learners is quite big and there is a lot of people starting everyday. A lot of people give up every day as well. 95% of people learning Japanese like manga. But there are very few manga in easy Japanese. The most famous is Yotsuba and pretty much every learner buys one volume at some point.

Obviously not everyone can write the story in very easy Japanese but I suggest it as food for thought.

The manga mentioned is called Crystal hunters and can be found here .
I reckon reading Crystal hunter is a bit cringe when your Japanese is intermediate/advanced but beginners love it.

Anyway my idea would be for me to write an easy Japanese version of your dialogues (maybe two levels, very easy and low intermdiate but we can discuss that later). That would not be a one to one translation due to the limited vocabulary. For instance 'there are some embers left' could become something like 'the fire is almost gone'.

Writing stuff in easy Japanese is my other hobby. In a first project I teach Japanese in Japanese using emoji to introduce new vocab and using them in stories ( here). In a second project I am writing 'comic books' in an FF inspired world in 'low intermediate' Japanese ( here) .

Let me know your thought. The pages up to 'Negotiation' of you comic do not have a lot of dialogue so that should not require too much work from me. I would obviously do it for free and even pay for proofreading (shouldn't be more than 3 dollars to be honest) .
