Then here goes my first one:

She’s actually a very old OC of mine, her name is Frida. She’s a half dragon and also inspired by the lilac flower, which means first emotions of love when it’s purple and innocence and youth when white. And while Frida is quite young, she’s neither innocent nor particularly loving…
Except when it’s family love, of course. She really loves her family.

So, let’s get started with some OCs just for this contest!
Starting off with my favorite flower: it’s actually the pinesap flower, but it doesn’t really have a meaning, so I went with ghost flower instead, which is very closely related to the pinesap flower and means mystery and ethereal beauty:

I don’t really have a name for this character yet, I’d name her Mona but you can name her whatever you want.

I based my entry off Sunflowers; symbols of happiness and prosperity.
Her name is Shandiin, from the Navajo meaning Sunshine.
Her ethnicity is based on the New Mexican region where the flower originated.

Apparently the Aztec had the sunflower as a war symbol, so maybe don't let her disposition fool you.

Brooke is based off broccoli. (the first flower I thought of)
A sturdy maintenance worker who keeps everything running day to day, such like the vegetable that can help support your body. They wear a tiny golden flower pin in their curls.

Black Dahlia-- make sure you add flower to the end of that if you google it, lest you stumble across crime scene pictures.
Historically, they represented a warning of betrayal or sadness, so a lady in mourning was what I was going for. Something melancholic.

Here goes another character!

Inspired by the ice plant, which means formality. Specifically a living stone, which is a plant that really looks like a stone unless it’s in bloom. Living stones only grow in a specific region of South Africa, but many people grow them at home, so that could be an interesting idea for this character’s backstory.

Daphne, based on the plant of the same name, more specifically the mezereon. It symbolizes coquetry and the desire to please someone. The plant itself is also crazy poisonous, so… you better be wary of her.

I’m sorry to do this again, but… here’s another one

I’m irrationally proud of this one for some reason
She’s based on the oleander plant. In flower language, it means “Beware”. Her name is Alili, which is the Berber name for the oleander flower.
She may not look the part, but she’s a nuclear scientist and very morally gray. She makes it clear that both her job and herself are incredibly dangerous. Oleander plants are very poisonous and can cause your heart to do weird things, but thankfully people usually don’t eat them.
Also why are all my entries girls so far? Gotta make one that isn’t a girl lol

No DW I love seeing your entries (besides I'm drawing all entries anyway). I love how you incorporated her being poisonous into her job. See the main character for my comic the flower is poisonous but instead of making it a job I made it that everyone they are around gets figuratively poisoned

Yeah that’s a good idea, especially since spider lilies are not only poisonous but also mean death and parting, so that makes sense. Maybe also making them have a toxic personality (I have plans for another character where I will do exactly that). As for Alili, her job is not only alluding to the fact that she’s poisonous, but also that the oleander flower was the first to bloom after the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, so I thought maybe I would make her more tolerant to radiation and therefore a nuclear scientist.
