As our closest app watchers can attest to, we're still trying to get all our ad stuff dialed in for mobile.
The complete explanation to what is going on with the video ads is probably too complicated to really explain in full detail. But in a nutshell, what's happening now is that we really didn't like the user experience of watching an ad and only having it pay 1 Coin. We thought that was bad. So, what we have now is that we are only showing higher paying video ads but there are less of them to show on a daily basis.
That's why it sometimes looks like they aren't there. When you visit the Coin Shop it makes a call to the ad folks. If they don't have an ad ready then we don't show the ability to watch one.
Going forward we will be trying out different networks and making it easier to watch more video ads for coins in more places. Right now we don't think enough people know where to go to even watch ads for coins so that's something we're working on too. Once more and more people start watching video ads, things start to happen where better ads are served and the value to everyone (including the watchers) is increased across the board.
So yeah, stick with us. Things are definitely looking promising but we still have a ways to go to make sure everything is dialed in exactly how we want it for everyone.
And as far as the creators getting ad revenue for static ads, the ad does need to be seen.
