I had a similar issue when I was picked back in September. A lot of the comics that got picked during that week got over 100 new subs, while mine got around 50 by the end of the week. Needless to say, I was very discouraged... especially during the first two-three days, during which, despite being picked, I saw little to no growth at all.
However, after taking a closer look at the way that particular staff pick worked, I realized one thing: being among the staff picks isn't enough. Your placement on the home page of the Tapas app is what REALLY does the trick. On the first day my comic was picked, it only appeared on the desktop website and not on the app. That day, I got 0 new subs.
On the days that followed, sometimes my comic would show among the first 3-4 comics in the "Staff picks" section. When that happened, my subscribers count would rise. When, on the other hand, my comic was pushed all the way down to the end of the list, again I'd get no subscribers at all. Out of 7 days, my comic was in the "front row" only 3 days. As a result, I got less subscribers compared to people who appeared more often at the top of the list. Some people who got picked during that same week pretty much never made it to the top row.
A similar trend happened recently with staff picks for Women's History month. For the first week or so, there were two comics listed all the way down at the bottom of the list. You had to manually click on the list and scroll aaaaall the way down to the bottom to find them. During that week, those two comics got maybe 3 new subscribers each. Why? Because nobody was seeing them.
Recently, however, Tapas made a huge banner on top of the home page of the app linking to the comics picked for Women History month. The two comics at the bottom of the list now got over 200 new subscribers each. Still not a lot compared to those at the top, but as you can see... placement did make a HUGE different, even with a staff pick. It's not your fault and it has nothing to do with the quality of the comic itself, it's just that, even if the comic has been technically "picked", most users won't scroll through the whole list and will only check what's right in front of them.
