I've been wanting to practise poses, especially since I've decided to participate in the Call to Action contest after all, and noticed that I often don't really have a clear picture of what pose I'd like my characters to have. I'll know the general feeling or mood I'm going for but then struggle to come up with something specific, and sometimes also struggle to find the right words to google reference pics (it's even worse with ADHD ... like ... words. Meaning. I know thing but no words. :D)

So I thought I'd create one of these "I'll draw your characters" threads and have those of you that would like a sketch of their character suggest poses to me. Just drop a pic (or several pics) of your character and tell me what pose you'd like me to draw them in. Reference pics are greatly appreciated but if you struggle to find a good one you can always just describe it. I'd also appreciate descriptions with more info/details than just something like "cool fighting pose" or "looking elegant" but if you leave a vague description I'll just try my best with that and you'll have to make do with my interpretation of it.

I don't know how many sketches I'll be able to do, I'll try to create as many as possible but that depends on the difficulty level of the poses and characters I get and my energy levels. So uh ... I'll do my best. If I don't get around to your character I'm really sorry.
Also, if I try a pose several times and it's just too difficult for me at my current skill level I'll let you know. I hope I won't have to admit defeat but uh ... we'll see. ^^'

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. :smiley:

First of all, best of luck with the contest! :hype_01:
I'll hit you up with Kogane, he's buff, has a long nose and seems right up your alley :grin:

And let's go for something frontal and jumpy like this, with hips forward, if you would like it :slight_smile: You can also put some clothes on him or you can also strip him however you want if you wanna do some anatomy ^^

Just how did you know I would love this character :innocent:
And why am I tempted to put him in pirate clothes ...

Eek I'm getting smaller because I reached the end of my canvas ...
Like with Dani I changed the pose a little to include his weapon because he really should be wielding it. I really love his hair for some reason, it's so dynamic and fun to draw.

And here's Erik. This was a cool (haha) challenge because I never really thought about how I'd do a sentient snowman in my style. I love the concept though and I hope I did him justice.

Oh I love me a hot character challenge.
Did I come close to your skill level? No?
Did I do him justice? Probably not.
But then again I didn't expect any of that since I am a complete simp for your art. He was still a lot of fun to draw and now I'd like to enlarge, refine and ink and colour this ...

@Aeneas1 Oh I'm glad you like it. He was definitely fun to draw and seems like a cool character. :smiley:

@TheDoublekey Thank you so much. :smiley: Hehe, the hair is cool, but he has a very creative design overall, it has so much character.

@Legendofgenii Thank you :blusht:

Whaaaaaa, are you kidding, aw thank you, he looks amazing! :heart_02: and you totally nailed the pose (which is, to be fair, a hard one) great job!! :muscle:
(And I am so glad you like him, hahaha :blusht: I am always digging pirates AU too, I even made it canon in one story xD)
I am by no means a great artist, but if you want to ask for any tips or anything you think can help you, don't hesitate to ask :hugging:

Ah thank you so much :blusht: I'm glad you like what I came up with ... it was definitely a challenge (the references helped though) but also a lot of fun ... not just because your character is very, ahem, aesthetically pleasing. :smiley: I also just enjoy these kinds of poses, even though they do feel like my nemesis sometimes.
And yeah, pirates are way too much fun ... that's why I just made them canon too. ^^ (I should also check out your stuff)
Also thanks so much. Well first of all, I do think you're a great artist, and second of all, I've actually learned a thing or two from the art you've posted here. Like, sometimes someone will upload a piece and when I see it my brain will focus in on a part and something will click and I go "Ooooh so that's how it works!" My only issue is that sometimes there's a huge difference between my theoretical knowledge about what a thing looks like or how a thing works and my ability to actually draw the thing ... I remember vividly how I praised another artist's anatomy once, at some point during my first year of med school, and asked her how she got so good at it, and she replied "Don't you study medicine? When you learn about the muscles and bones I think this will all become a lot clearer and easier to you." And I wanted to cry because I'd literally just learned about all the muscles in the body and didn't get any closer to being able to draw anatomy well. At the end of the day it still comes down to practise and just ... looking at things a lot until something clicks. :smiley:

Thank you for posting him and wanting to share my art - I'd be honoured. :smiley:
I hope you like how he turned out. :slight_smile:

:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:
It's amazing, I love it, I love it!!! Can I share it on my social media?

It's awesome :sunglasses::+1:

Thank you so much!!!!! :heart:️:heart:️:heart:️:heart:️:heart:️

Sorry for my effusive reaction :sweat_smile: it's just that I always wanted my character to look like this, but I'm bad at drawing certain poses.

Aah! I love this so much, thank you! :heart_01: Definitely pinning this to my wall.

Aw, thank you. That means a lot to me. <3 It took a while to come up with their designs, and even now I still plan on implementing some changes as I outline the story. It's mostly gathering as much inspos from Pinterest and mashing them all up. :joy:

@amenity Sure, go ahead, just credit me when you post it. :slight_smile: Also I'm really glad you like it. This pose was actually surprisingly challenging. Sitting poses in general are a kind of difficult for me to do, because the different body parts overlap more and you can't see everything in reference pics. So it was good practice and kinda fun to figure out where his torso actually is and how it's angled. :smiley:
But yeah it's a tricky pose for sure, I'd assume it's challenging for a lot of artists.

Ah wait tagged the wrong person :smiley: Editing the second part now :slight_smile:

@Stargazer31 Thank you! I'm glad you like her!

@wispysing Thank you! I think now I've tagged correctly :smiley: But anyway, I love their designs, and I can imagine it took some time to come up with them ... It kinda makes me want to put more thought into my designs now. :smiley:
And I definitely relate to the part about changing their designs again, I definitely do that (the amount of times I've changed some of my characters' outfits ... Did you know there are many different tricorn hat models and I have not yet picked one so it looks different every time :upside_down: ) It's just part of the process though and fun to experiment.

Of course I'll give you credit for your drawing, thanks again and for taking the time to do this, I really loved it. :slight_smile:️

Thank you for posting your character :smiley:
I'm looking forward to your post. ^^
Would it be okay for me to post the drawing too (and tag you)? (This goes for everyone who let me draw their character, just let me know if you're okay with me posting my drawing of your character and linking/tagging you ofc)

Ooh I like that!
I used to do karate so I might try out a few poses actually. I have to work today though so I'll either do a sketch tonight or tomorrow. :slight_smile:

Oh cool! :open_mouth: The pic I attached here is a Wing Chun pose, so if you have any difficulty with this one, you can swap it out for another Wing Chun style pose.
And sure, take your time! Thank you for doing this and I hope it helps you with poses! :smiley:

I think you did really well on the pose! Thank you! :heart_01:
Junming looks more muscular (and older) than I thought though haha :stuck_out_tongue:

If it's okay with you, do you mind me sharing your art on Toyhouse/Twitter/Tapas? If so, what link should I use to credit you? :smile:

Ah thanks. :smiley:
Yeah, I guess I aged him up a bit ... and I kinda just guessed that he'd be muscular if he works out a lot. XD I can change the sketch so that it looks more like his actual body type if you want me to though. :slight_smile:
And yeah, of course you can share it, I'd be really happy if you did. I don't have a comic I'm updating regularly right now (working on one but it's in the early stages) so I maybe just my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/lia.roger/1 or @lia.roger). I go by the same pseudonym pretty much everywhere, I'm just notvery active all the time. :smiley:

Oh that's ok! I can assume this would be an older version of him. :wink:
And thank you, I'll use your Insta link! Thank you for the art again! :heart_03:
