Has an author's personality turned you off from continuing reading a story?

When or If I ever had said or done something that steppede over some toes, I have always apologist directly and tried to keep the drama out of the public debate, and take the debate with the persons involved.

I wish more people understood this, to be honest There's tons of good media out there by wonderful people to enjoy, someone saying "hey maybe don't support this creator in particular" isn't the end of the world.

I'd say I'm more likely to check out/read things from people I like because... I'm interested and curious about what they're up to. And I like to support creators that I think are doing good things, whether or not I follow their work.

I don't want to support works by creators that I find personally "questionable" but I would probably still view/read/watch/etc. Like I prefer to buy the Ender's Game series second hand, for example, but I still read and enjoyed it!

Second of all, nah. So, I couldn't say if they were promising or not.

Though one person did get very upset with me that declined collaboration with them and they told me I was being selfish and I didn't want to share the spotlight and help smaller creators. It was bizarre.

And I did block an author on Tapas because they were starting to be creepy. So I did drop their series as a result of that.

That wasn't the best move on their part, in my opinion. I mean, I understand being disappointed by someone saying no to collabing, but guilt tripping someone? It's good to respect people's decisions if they have respectfully declined. It's their choice. They're not trying to be mean by saying no and people should be allowed to say no. A "thank you for your consideration" is a good response, but what they did could cause problems for them if they continue that. Even if one person doesn't do business with you, it's good to keep good relations with everyone regardless because:
1. They might change their minds later.
2. They might have connections with other people and if their friends or associates ask for advice on said person, they will probably be honest and not recommend that person if this is consistently a problem.
3. It's just not respectful etiquette in my opinion.

Hopefully this was just a one time thing, but if this creator is consistently doing this, I hope they become a bit more mindful and respectful in the future.

Oops, I'm sort of guilty of this, but I've only done after 2 episodes because I don't like seeing episodes that are just updates because I don't want people notified by something that isn't new content. Plus, I also update on webtoon, which doesn't have a creator wall. Maybe I should delete those update posts at the end of those eps? I did try to make them interesting with cartoon versions of me explaining things.

An author's magnum opus is more expressive of their personality than any offhand commentary they've made over the internet, and it'd be self-defeating to allow something to get in the way of a piece of work I'm already enjoying.

I started doing monthly updates so there wouldn't be radio silence from me for months at a time when I didn't have new content. It actually works out well for me because it allows me to interact more with my readers and reminds maybe some readers that the comic is still around so they can binge it if they want. I used to only make wall posts but then I realized some of my readers probably weren't seeing them because they might be on the app.

It wasn't on this platform specifically but it has happened to me once. I joined the author's discord server where I learned she was a bit of a B****. I wasn't bothered because I was used to people who were like that and I liked her novels.

However, there was one novel (LGBT+) that I felt has lost its appeal when she started writing its sequel. The first book was good on its own but the sequel felt more like fanservice than anything. It got to a point that she wrote her main character having been drugged at a party and his friend took him home... well... you get where this is going. It was a huge controversy because it was wrong but suddenly she turned around saying they were both drugged.

I let it slide but I didn't feel like the sequel had any actual appeal to it so when I voiced my opinion on it, she banned me from her server. All because the fans on that platform loved the story and there were some of us (in the server) who shared the same opinion on its lost appeal. It just kinda ruined both of them. She said I was "hating" on her work when really I was sharing an honest opinion from a reader's point. I dropped the novel after that because I just lost all interest in it, turns out she made it into some zombie story at the end??? (initially a gay, teen fiction novel). I stuck around with one series that she eventually dropped and since then I haven't read anything from her.

I think having an update at the end of a post or making an update post with extra content like character bios or a Q & A is okay. It's only an issue when a creator has more than a couple of updates that are just author notes.

Admittedly I’m like this a lot in my head. I just can’t help being in that mood sometimes and I feel crap and bitter about other people, but I try to move past it and act friendly or simply step away for a while. Being a smaller artist can be frustrating especially if you just have one of those personalities

Now that I think about it there’s this one comic where I interacted with the author via twitter and she was sorta lowkey bitchy. Least that’s the vibes I got. It wasn’t even about her comic I just replied to her response to the new Batman trailer and she had to get all technical even though I was just trying to make her feel better since she didn’t like the trailer. It left a bad taste in my mouth but I still read her comic. Have not actually interacted with her since though

I have definitely had that! I came across a comic I found adorable but in dealing with the author they're just Very aggressive and a touch homophobic. I unsubbed and kept going

Yes, definitely.

It's when they started being super chummy in the DMs, sharing almost everything about the happenings in their lives without regarding the others' time, experiences and even stories.

When they did regard them, they asked for something in return.

When they'd become too comfortable with you, they started showing their true colours. They would not stop shoving their successes onto you, seeking constant praises from you and others, and foul-mouthing everyone they didn't like.

Some I have tolerated and still love their stories. Some I stop following altogether because even the stories' characters emotionally drain other supporting characters and this is no doubt, reflects the authors' interactions with others.

Please take care of your motivation and creative self online, everyone.

The positive thing with being a small creator: you have your peace. No haters and no pressure to update. Ok I still feel the need to update on time but it surely would be more intense, if I had more subs.

In my experience comic artists and illustrators are way more friendly people than musicians. I have a regular illustrator meeting in my hometown, most of them are illustrators, some comic artists and I couldn´t believe how friendly everyone is.
In the music scene there are a lot of negative people, but I would still listen to their music

At the moment I have two comics I avoid because they are constantly negative about their own art, even though it's epic (like professional level)and everyone says so again and again. It is ok to feel that way but when this is the tonus for months/years and it feels like nothing seems to get through... It's tireing. I don't want to abandon those stories, as I know what they are going through, but constant negativity isn't something, I am always ready for.

I think lots of people feel this way! The important thing is that you're not putting that negativity out there. It's okay to vent to friends about it on discord or whatever (I have definitely had those days where I'm really frustrated with my subs and pissed off about low-quality or low-effort stuff that's hugely successful) but posting it publicly there's a much higher chance than people think that the person you're complaining about will see it and be upset, so it's good that you keep those feelings to yourself. You're acting professional by doing that!
