Has constructive criticism thrown you?

Does this happen all the time? I got feedback that's so unexpected, it completely threw me off. I was told all my female character save the day and all the men are evil.

You'll be working hard to create nuanced characters and then get a comment that completely misinterprets your intentions. It's frustrating, especially when you're trying to write a story without a clear villain.

I'm open to criticism, but it can be tough to figure out how to handle a comment that seems to come out of nowhere. It's a reminder that everyone reads with their own perspective and biases.

How have you been feeling about the feedback you received? Are you thinking about adjusting anything, or are you shaking it off?

Criticism of my work doesn't throw me off. I take both good and bad comments with a grain of salt.

I've been told that my works are all about "edge", "shock value", "pushing limits of what's acceptable", "blunt", "tactless with sensitive topics", etc. (Whether that's a good thing or bad thing that's all up to you)

And with that said given the nature of my works, any comment is welcome.

I'm a libertarian free speech absolutist.

I get very little feed back about my stories. They seem to be love it or leave it I guess, but in silence.

I haven't really gotten any negative criticism for Etherwood other than small points about the art, but I totally understand how easy it is to get your intentions subverted when you incarnate them into a story. It happens to me as a game master all the time, since I am much more loquacious and I have a much more limited ability to retcon or control situations.

All you can do is see if the criticism is true, and then make necessary adjustments moving forward. It happens to pros all the time - think of all the movies that had awful scripts or that came off preachy and stupid. Those writers probably didn't set out to make a bad movie with preachy morals and plot holes the size of the great lakes, but it's easier for them to turn out that way than to make a genuinely good film!

Handling criticism gets really easy with self confidence.
I know 100% where my limits are, my personal quality level
and what I want to improve on.

I can´t imagine anything that would upset me.
That wasn´t always the case, it has a lot to do
with being 50 and having experience with it

No. I haven't received many comments. It can be tough not letting negative ones get to you. Deciding which comments to take seriously, what opinions should be acknowledged or shut off.

I wish I received more feedback. There are several stupid mistakes I've made in my comic that I didn't realize until receiving a comment months after I had been doing it.

I once applied to get my comic review. To be honest, what he said hurt a bit but was fair. Working on my project for so long made it difficult to see the flaws that were in it.

I took what I felt applied and tried to improve. Some comments you just have to ignore but if they make a good point, may be worth seeing if it helps.

It depends on what others define as constructive criticism. A few times, I would get comments like "No parent would ever abuse their child like this; it's unrealistic" or "I don't like romance, so I wish you didn't introduce a love interest." And, to be real, it's not helpful feedback at all.

What I find to be constructive criticism is "Hey, the pacing in this chapter was a bit fast for me but the previous one was great. I don't understand what the rush is about?" As a writer, I can get so wrapped up in my head, that I fail to notice details like these--and comments like this is helpful, because I can try to track problematic patterns and what else I'd need to work on in future works.

For me is I tend to see what that person has done and see if they follow their own feedback; because like sometimes that person may not know what they're talking about.

At this point, the type of criticism we take is from trusted people or people from trusted circles.

And if someone becomes a yes man, you look over to find more people who can challenge you within these circles.

Both examples are just unnecessary comments.
Not feedback, not constructive criticism or criticism.
It´s their personal opinion nobody cares about.
Like someone commenting "BUT I DON´T LIKE VEGAN FOOD"
under a vegan food commercial. Old people love to do that
on facebook

People should just learn to mind their own business and get a hobby.

The same kind of people also comment under pictures of prominent people who died,
things like "Who is that supposed to be?" Like anyone cares if they know that person
or not. It´s some kind of main character kind of behavior, everything is about them
