yes and no! it's a real yam called "Flying Yam" from Tiwi Islands, Australia. the reason it's called this way it's because most yams grow underneath the earth, this one is above (the plant i illustrated). they are indeed poisonous if not prepared correctly. in the Kurlama Cerimony, every year they cook the yam for 3 nights and 3 days to make the sacred dish wich will give them health for another year.
