Have you ever come across an artist you don't like but you just don't know why?

It's okay that you don't like lavendertowne, even if it is irrationally. You don't need a good reason to dislike someone. And even if you cut out her name from the op, it's pretty obvius who you're talking about. She is a creator on this website, so be fair warned about who might see this post.

I've never personally been in a position where I disliked an artist specifically for no reason. Either their art or their personality will turn me off from them.

I don't think you should waste your time on that. You can avoid consuming her content or continue to do so. It might be better for you to stop if watching/reading since doing so gets you so upset.

I don't think it's anything strange, some things are just not your cup of tea. It could be the same for music, movies, books, even people. Especially when the thing is popular, you just cannot wrap your head around why other people like it.
It just could be "it's almost what I need, so close, but not quite, so I want to like it, but cannot", it's almost a guilty pleasure, but you also hate it. I have this thing with Summertime Sadness song
Could be jealousy too, of course. Nothing unusual in being jealous of other people success

I think their issue is that, they like all the content the artist makes and even the artist's personality, but for no clear reason, they don't like the artist.

I...actually know exactly how you feel (especially considering who you're talking about). Some people just rub you the wrong way like that. ^^;

I feel like maybe it's a 'perfection' thing? Not literal perfection as a human being, but like someone cast them to play the part of themselves...there's no rough edges, no weird surprises; everything you learn about them is exactly what you'd expect and it's maddening in a way you just can't place...like the uncanny valley, but in a social dimension. That's the best way I can describe it.

Like others have said, though, I try not to dwell on people like that. What good does it do? They haven't actually done anything wrong, and you don't even know why you don't like them. Best course of action is to just ignore 'em and move on.

I have this exact same feeling towards a fandom (not a person). I won't say which fandom because I don't wanna be mauled on the internet by their fans :') but every time they are mentioned by my friends or even my siblings, I get this uncontrollable rage and I have to excuse myself from the room because I just can't stand hearing it.

The only difference is that I do know the cause of it, which stems from the fact that my close high school friends would often leave me out of their conversations because I'm not part of that fandom. Needless to say we're not that close anymore and I've managed to find myself a better group of friends. But, the scar from that experience still remains and I still can't stand that fandom deep to my core. So, maybe the reason why you don't like said artist is because of an issue you haven't realised it yet.

Sometimes it is just about mysterious petty matter like preference of aesthetic, like some styles or designs look repulsive to me (even when I have ugly art style). Sometimes it is about the vibe conveyed, like if I think it looks too edgy, sappy, and/or try-hard I will avoid it. In other times it is simply because I am fed up of seeing them again and again when I am not willing too, because social media algorithm shill them. Say what you want about cringe culture, but many things above can cause me to physically cringe in reaction so I just try to avoid it.

I try to not get it escalated into hate, or getting personal. I simply will block them to get rid of eyesores. I think it is very normal; it is socially acceptable to like things without concrete reasons, so why not about disliking?

Sometimes people just don't click with certain people, that's natural.

People don't get along with everybody. When i dislike a person i just keep my distance and move on with my life. There is no need to feel guilty about it as long as you don't actively try to harm these people.

I come late to this discussion and have no idea who you're talking about but... because I was in the audio drama business for so long might I offer something that we used to deal with?

Some people's voices just hack the heck out of you. There were actors (and very very good ones) that we couldn't use because our audience would complain.

There is a whole science behind the affect a person's voice has on someone else. I venture to guess that this is what you're dealing with. There is something in the person's vocal range that hits your receptors like that old cliché "fingers on a chalkboard." My mum used to go to this one church and when I went with her if this one person was there to say the sermon it was all I could do to not run screaming from the place. And afterwards I would fantasize about walking up to him and punching him he made me so angry. It wasn't him, it was how my ears were hearing him.

It really is. I never thought about it until I got into audio drama but when you think about it, listening on the radio or to books on tape or just people on the bus or out in public, there are those that just set you on edge. They may be perfectly lovely, wonderful people but the minute they open their mouths... ouch. And only ouch to specific people.

If you look into the history of Hollywood (and movies have been made about it) when sound came in it ruined the careers of a lot of silent star actors because of their vocal tones.

If you've ever seen the movie Jaws and the "music" they use for the coming shark... those undertones are such that they produce dread and are very specifically used for that.

So, frankly, I think that's all it is. No jealousy nothing else. Her voice doesn't pair well with the way you hear.

This accurately describes how I feel when hearing 90% of Pop Music and Modern Country artists. But I can control my boiling rage and simmer it down to a mild irritation xD

I kinda understand, especially if is like professional jealousy or if you feel the artist's personality just rub you in the wrong way, but in my case, I try to separate the art from the person. I mostly follow people by their art, not by their personality.

It's called instinct, luv. Sometimes there are people that just give off that bad juju you know. Always listen to your gut, but that doesn't mean you have to let yourself become engulfed by it. Just acknowledge that feeling and leave them be and simply stay away from them.

Please do not become obsessed by them, because it will raise your ire and negativity against them and that is no way to go about with your own mental health.
