Help....I need pros and cons of Clip Studio Paint

I have trouble with the clone tool on CSP. Any tips? I'm obviously doing something wrong.

But it does? After the settings screen, once you click next or ok there's a preview image screen.

I've used both and strongly prefer Photoshop for illustration and comic creation. CSP is great but it has a lot of "training wheels" on it IMO. Photoshop is truly a lawless land, and I honestly prefer it.

CSP is great though if you're starting out IMO, same with Paint Tool SAI. Theres a lot of effects you can use, and literally the only reason I didn't like CSP was because of how "rigid" it felt.

At the end of the day it comes down to skill, there is no difference between the two programs if you don't have the skills to create work in them. A good artist will create good work in both as well.

The preview is just one example and Save for Web's preview is superior.

PS's Save for Web gives several different previews depending on how you need your image to look. I usually just use the basic optimized preview, but it also has the 2-Up option which adds another layer of control when you need your image pixel perfect. Select PNG-8 and you can select the exact amount of colors to use in the image. You can even manually adjust the colors it selects.

Don't get me wrong, CSP has some good export features, but the point is Save for Web gives you control that CSP doesn't.

CSP has good Assets that are free, which is something I love about it. I personally find the layout and organization of the whole thing to be confusing.

Also it’s, I guess you’d say “heavy”. As opposed to a light weight program. I really only use CSP for the Assets I’ve downloaded and immediately go back to PS. Upside is also that CSP can open and save PSD files. So that’s good for me. Because CSP lags too much for my liking.

As I understand it, CSP has better tools for lineart and illustration stuff, but I find them complicated. Then again I do traditional lineart, not digital, and I don’t use a tablet so I can’t compare those. Overall I prefer PS. But CSP does have a trial version so I suggest that.

But you can always use both too

How do you make a panel?

CSP provides a few different ways to make panels. The way I do it and find easiest/most convenient is to go to Layer -> New Layer -> Frame Border Folder. This will create a layer folder that will mask out anything that falls out of the panel automatically. It will also create one big panel that you can use as a base to work with.

Next use the frame border tool (shortcut is U which you have to click twice to get to. The first U will go to the figure tool). Set your horizontal gutter to be larger than the vertical gutter. You will have to do some trial and error to see which gutter size works for you.

Then simply drag the cursor across the panel and you will slice it. Hold shift to make the cut perfectly straight.

I like to do it this way because the panels will all be on one layer folder. If you do it other ways, they would be on different layer folders which would likely get messy with too many layers in too many layer folders.

I like CSP quite a bit. I can do pretty much anything with it, but I do struggle with the clone tool. I think I'm doing something wrong. Prefer the clone in Photoshop.
